One last thought about Johnny Cash |
|
What is certain is that when Johnny Cash died a big part of the America I loved died with him. I'm a City boy but I love my Hank Williams, my Patsy Cline and my Johnny Cash. Good night sweet prince. And good night to you all.

3. Question about johnny... I missed the other threads. |
|
Exactly what was he in prison for? I don't think it was because he "shot a man in Reno just to watch him die" was it?

He spent a few nights in the drunk tank over the years. He was never in prison.

10. No, but Merle Haggard was in Folsom Prison |
|
When he heard Johnny play.
He decided he'd better work on his music when he got out--was never very good at armed robbery. Can't say he decided to "go straight". I have it on good authority that he pointed out he never did smoke marijuana--in Muskogee.
Merle remains as one of the real ones. One of the ones who won't get played on modern "country" radio.

Haggard was in San Quentin for safecracking charges in the early 60's. Pardoned by Governor Reagan a decade or so later.
