1. I would want to be Euthanized
Maybe someday we'll offer human beings in this country the same kindness afforded to family pets.

2. Me too
If I was like this I wouldn't want to live like that. It'd make me more depressed and want to die anyways if I knew for sure there was no hope like this situation.

3. I wouldn't be capable of wanting anything!

The whole question is really irrelevant given her condition. It's like the choice between watering the potted plant in the living room, or not watering it and letting it die. The potted plant doesn't care either way. And if I were in her condition I wouldn't care either way, because I wouldn't be capable of caring either way.

7. Sorry For The Ambiguity...
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 04:07 PM by arwalden
... I'll rephrase the question. :-)

"What would you choose for yourself NOW, that would be carried out for you in the event that at some future date you became in a state that is identical to Terri Schiavo's condition?"

-- Allen

PS: My bad... Sorry for the misunderstanding. I was trying to make my poll question as brief as possible (to fit on the subject line)... but unfortunately when I did that, it allowed the question to become a bit ambiguous.

5. That's why I told my kids to make their Living Wills NOW....
Mommy Dearest will give them a week under the Schiavo condition, not 15 years!

But I wouldn't want the plug to be pulled until I got down to a size 6. How's that for shallow?

12. Oh yeah
Not a dress so much. I have a slinky tight t shirt that says, "Support Bush? Enlist now. The troops are dying for your help.

But if it happens later than sooner, I'll still have some kind of stinging political statement to make. (:

9. Hi stranger!
I have not seen you around much. BTW, me too. A size 6 would be just about right. :hi: I hope things are well with you.

11. You talking to me?
I haven't been around much because I had a small stroke and now I've got some kind of crud that will not go away. I love you guys and miss you horribly when I can't log on. :loveya:

20. But then you wouldn't be you.
I speak from experience caring for PVS patients--Mrs. Schiavo no longer exists; nor does Terri, or Theresa, or that woman who was married to Mr. Schiavo, or the daughter of the Schindlers.

It's a horrible thought, but there is no longer a person there, just a body.

15. Up the morphine
Just raise the dose and let me drift off!!! I refuse to be a meat puppet for anyone. If "I" am no longer able or physically capable to live on my own, without machines, then that is the natural way of things.

Medication for all!!!!!!

18. You said it. The Natural Way - Let Go!
I blame the parents. It's very selfish of them. They do not have their daughter's best interest at heart. The courts should urge them into counseling or make them stop drinking that damn Kool-Aid!

17. It's what I would want and any NORMAL human being!
I had to make this decision some years back. It was the most unselfish act a loved-one can do. I feel so sorry for Michael. Really.

19. I wouldn't want either; because I wouldn't have the capacity to want.
If I could predict (and I am working on an AD), I would want a respectful amount of time, say a few months, to be given a chance to recover. After that, let me go.

I have cared for patients like Mrs. Schiavo, and I can confirm that there is simply nothing human in her body anymore. She exists as a breathing corpse, and I mean that with absolutely no disrespect towards her.

It sounds very harsh, but everything that makes us human is absent from her being.

Let her go.
