Current Cheney Halliburton connections?
Cheney said this morning that he hasn't had any contact with Halliburton in over three years. I remember an article from some months ago that said that he was still collecting something like 4 million a year from them. Anyone got any links?

1. He still gets a million a year
Here's a link:
Cheney is still paid by Pentagon contractor
http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,912515,00.html

Halliburton, the Texas company which has been awarded the Pentagon's contract to put out potential oil-field fires in Iraq and which is bidding for postwar construction contracts, is still making annual payments to its former chief executive, the vice-president Dick Cheney.

The payments, which appear on Mr Cheney's 2001 financial disclosure statement, are in the form of "deferred compensation" of up to $1m (£600,000) a year.

When he left Halliburton in 2000 to become George Bush's running mate, he opted not to receive his leaving payment in a lump sum but instead have it paid to him over five years, possibly for tax reasons.

CNN exonerates Haliburton/Cheney connection

Posted on 04/14/2003 9:04 PM PDT by God luvs America

Anyone who watched Aaron Brown on CNN tonight probably felt their stomach churn when they talked of the "rebuilding of Iraq and the ties to Vice-President Cheney." But the report in fact exonerated Cheney....

First, after showing leftist prostestors who have now taken this (Cheney/Haliburton/Iraq rebuilding) as their cause several things were pointed out:

-Cheney's salary of $150K from Haliburton, which is deferred, has nothing to do with company performance.

-the VP has no say in the handing out of wartime contracts to corporations.

-it is occupational suicide for any corporate leader to try and call in favors from the goverment during wartime.

The report did go on to say Haliburton and its' subsidary, who actually won the contract to put out oil fires in Iraq, is one of the few corporations actually capable of putting put oil rig fires.

Bottom line...like everything else these clowns on the left decry the Cheney-Haliburton-Iraq contracts has nothing to it.

6. There are several outright lies in that post
Among other things, that the 'salary' is 150K. It's several times that much: ~$1,000,000.00 per year.

Why was there no bidding process whatsoever for most of these contracts?

Let them tap dance around the truth as much as they want -- it ain't fooling anybody.

The fact is, this is the most corrupt administration since Boss Tweed's Tammany Hall ran New York City.

3. It goes into a "blind trust. Here's the quiz question...
Where has the blind trust invested ALL of Cheney's assets? And Bush's? Anybody? Anybody?

4. I don't know, but this is important.
Of course, what he said to Tim Russert this morning amounted to one lie after another, but we should expose as much as we can.

8. And the others weren't too happy...
Quote: "...is one of the few corporations actually capable of putting put oil rig fires."

The other companies who had experience in this weren't too happy that they couldn't bid on this contract. One was a long-time oil field firefighter from the panhandle (of Texas) that was very vocal in his criticism of the sweet deal KBR got and his company was told to go home.

I bet this no-bid contract goes a long way to making sure Cheney still gets his deferred compensation.

10. "Mr. Cheney received a cash bonus...

of $1,451,389 from Halliburton in January of this year, which will be included in the 2001 tax return."

Almost a million and a half bonus AFTER being selected Vice President?:wow:

And he's still valuable to Halliburton, isn't he? He plugs them every chance he gets as being the only company qualified to do this work (a blatant lie that has been told so many times that people think it is true.)

These people have no shame whatsoever.

Edited to say: I guess we could e-mail Russert and ask him why he let Cheney get away with these lies on his show, but Russert would probably just say Cheney "mis-spoke.":eyes:

it hadn't always been doing very well ... but, these the-sky's-the-limit federal contracts help to keep those payments a coming to Cheney while not totally wrecking the company ... you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours ...

"Halliburton Cleans Up" (literally and figuratively)
http://www.fool.com/News/mft/2003/mft03091202.htm?logvisit=y&source=estearhln001999&npu=y

Keep in mind that, with a shadow of a war still waging in Iraq, there are unavoidable costs associated with it. Halliburton is legitimately one of many companies that provide the kinds of services needed there.

expect the Iraqi Occupation to be extended for as long as possible ... we need a proactive Senator to stop being duped and demand a what-needs-to-be-done milestone schedule and have some accountability!

12. Bull...
Cheney still receives “deferred compensation” from Halliburton to the tune of $600 thousand to $1 million a year. Every question by Timid Russert was a setup - asked to give Cheney a chance to lie his way out of every possible previous lie. A staged interview of the worst order.

The best line in the interview, which went unchallenged, because there was to be no real challenge after a question had been posed was Cheney's explanation of real progress in Iraq - he referred to "....democratically appointed governing councils in the cities of Iraq."
Say what? Democratically APPOINTED????? Something new that I haven't heard about?

Cheney remains the smoking gun.
