Christian Fundamantalists Launch Anti-Schwarzenegger TV and Radio Ads
CMG PREVIEWS TELEVISION AD: RECALL POINTLESS IF SCHWARZENEGGER IS GOVERNOR

Los Angeles - Californians for Moral Government previewed a television advertisement at the Republican State Convention today, which says there is little difference between Arnold Schwarzenegger and Gray Davis and if that is the voters' choice then the recall is pointless.

...

The advertisement features footage of Arnold Schwarzenegger "morphing" into Gray Davis as a narrator recites identical positions taken by the liberal politicians.

"Arnold Schwarzenegger is pro-abortion," the narration said.

"So is Gray Davis.

"Arnold Schwarzenegger is in favor of gay adoptions."

"So is Gray Davis."

"Arnold Schwarzenegger refuses to sign the no new taxes pledge."

"Wow, so does Gray Davis."

"Arnold Schwarzenegger thinks people who support traditional values are 'religious fanatics' "

"So does Gray Davis."

James Lafferty, CMG's consultant, said the group plans to buy about $1 million ($1,000,000) in advertising on television and talk radio stations in the coming weeks.

(I think this is significant. Gov. Davis will soon be signing AB 205, which will give domestic partners most of the rights and responsibilities of marriage under CA state law. Will Arnie be a born-again gay-basher? Will your run-of-the-mill anti-gay zealot be able to stomach voting for Arnie (in the words of a bigot) "who favors sodomites adopting small boys"? All intersting questions... $1 million is a significant buy, targeted at GOP voters.)

6. Yeah, but I see I missed the point
It has to be something that makes him the same as Gray Davis, so I blew it.

8. Oh my...
When I read what you wrote I thought it was funny, but certainly didn't think of Davis in that context either! I can pretty confidently state that Davis HAS NOT done it with or in front of other guys. Funny thing, Davis fits the conservative cultural profile--Vietnam vet, no drugs or wild sex, and so forth. Arnie is the cultural radical in this race, interestingly. Some conservatives must worry what message "this sends the children." Or maybe conservatism will shed its anti-abortion, anti-homosexual ideology--in this state at least. Doubt it. Especially since Arnie won't win.

11. Uh.....Davis was pretty wild at one time
When Davis was Chief of Staff for Jerry Brown - Gray Davis was no saint.

2. This could actually be good.
If they gang up on Schwarzenegger, they promote Tom McClintock, who's such a knuckle-dragger it's ridiculous. He's behind, and resolute about staying in the race. Knuckle-draggers like him, Bill Simon, Bruce Herschenson (probably misspelled his name) and others just do not resonate with California, which might further the likelyhood that either Gray survives, or Cruz Bustamante wins. Either way it's a win for California and voters everywhere, and another punch in the nose to the repukes!

4. Not so sure.
I do think it is within the realm of possibility that someone like McClintock could win. He did almost become state controller, after being outspent 5-1. I think that the GOP actually would do better with a "squeaky-clean" traditional conservative than with the free-wheeling novice Arnie. The recall WAS a rare and perhaps last opportunity for the GOP right to win this state. Arnie actually spoiled their chances and has derailed the pro-recall train. His "moderate" politics are anathema to the logic of the recall.

5. What are they trying to accomplish?
they are spending money for a situation which in either outcome they lose. Me no understando?

Homer: America, take a good look at your beloved candidates. They're
nothing but hideous space reptiles.

Kodos: It's true, we are aliens. But what are you going to do about
it? It's a two-party system; you have to vote for one of us.

Man1: He's right, this is a two-party system.
Man2: Well, I believe I'll vote for a third-party candidate.
Kang: Go ahead, throw your vote away.
