Today's Guardian article about Clark |
|
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uslatest/story/0,1282,-3145887,00.htmlKNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark, sensing growing support for a Democratic presidential bid, said Saturday he is days away from announcing a decision and launched into an attack on President Bush.
In a half-hour speech to 1,000 cheering Democrats in heavily Republican East Tennessee, Clark said Bush has failed the country on health care, education and foreign policy.
``The No. 1 responsibility of the commander in chief is what? The safety and security of the United States of America,'' Clark said, questioning the administration's efforts to avoid the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
``What happened on 9-11, Mr. President? Why is it that eight months into your administration, why is it that there was no plan to deal with the number one threat that Bill Clinton's national security team warned you about when you took office?''

1. He's still being a little cagey; keeping everyone on edge... |
|
In an interview earlier with The Associated Press on the front porch of actor David Keith's home, Clark said there was only one decision before him. ``And that decision is, do you run for the office of president or do you stay in the private sector?''
Sounding like a candidate, he said without hesitation, ``I think I have a tremendous amount to offer this country, a lifetime of public service and leadership.''
He said a vice presidential slot is not on his mind, though he won't rule it out.

4. I loved the part about 9-11 too |

nobody else is really pointing that out.
Go Wesley! (My main reservation about Clark is voting for a guy with a girly name. <kidding!!!!>)

But I'd like it even more if he leveled that question at Bush during a debate. Curious George would either fold like a house of cards or lash out. Either way he's done.

3. Clark's got more guts than I thought he had, |
|
but I'm still leary about the guy and wonder how he will hold up to campaigning since he never ran for any office before. But, OF COURSE, if he is the nominee, I will support him.

7. Same here. I like Clark a lot. And he mentions in the article |
|
that he has not ruled out a VP slot. Since he has not held office before, that would be ideal for him. He's not an old man and has time to run for president in the future.

And I hope you will consider supporting him before that, after you have seen more of what he has to offer.

I don't care for Clark (as many of you know)....but.....I think he will be a serious player for the nomination and is almost a lock to be on the ticket one way or another. I read the new Atlantic Monthly article about Clark and the author clearly believes so as well. He DID talk about his intensity that could be a liability, but wrote that it doesn't seem to come across on TV. He was clearly talking about his distaste for those who don't agree with him. He WAS a general. But, overall, it was a very positive article. He will do well.

Thank You JasonBerry for your honest post, and if he does not get the nomination and your candidate does it would be a pleasure to work side by side with someone like you.

That was really a classy post. I know it doesn't constitute an endorsement, but I'm still hoping we'll win you over. I'll echo the sentiments that I'd be proud to work with you to support whoever we eventually nominate.
