Who was the best Democratic president of the last century; the best Repub?
This is just for fun. Since you are all almost certainly going to say that FDR was the best Democrat and Teddy Roosvelt the best Republican I would like to exclude them from this thread to make it more interesting.

5. Agreed to what?
I want you to answer who were the best with the exception of TR and FDR. In other words, who were the second best if you think those two were the best.

27. Yeah he is left of Clinton
but easily the best in the last 30 years Clinton that is. I disagree with left here because FDR is my pick and Truman next, I am not sure I am pretty left and I can tell you theres some Bill did I didnt like but it was fun growing up with him, I gladly defended him, and he was a good guy.

40. Yes. Kucinich is to the left of Clinton and so am I
but excluding FDR, so are all the other Democratic Presidents and Clinton was the most effective of the bunch.

I compare Kucinch's ideas to those of FDR.

21. Weren't JFK and Ford linked?
Wasn't Ford in charge of the whitewash known as the Warren Commission? I thought that was part of why Nixon named him to replace Spiro. Old debts, or something...

42. yeah, i thought that too
That's why i would never pick Ford. Can't trust someone that even Nixon called "the dumbest guy on the Warren Commision". I mean, that's pretty low.

As for the GOP I would say Nixon. Watergate and Vietnam aside he did some good things domestically. I would also include TR in that list.

JFK, Truman, or LBJ for the Dems. Eisenhower would be second to TR, for the Repubs.

I'd have to include Bill Clinton in there too. He is truly the most successful Democratic President of the last 20 years. The Repubs are cringing even now.

Edited on Sun Sep-14-03 03:17 PM by goldilox369
Because he got FDR elected. Other than that, and excluding teddy, i'm not sure if any republican has made a great president in recent history. I take that back...Ike did warn about the military-industrial complex. maybe he wasn't too bad.

The famous warning is all well and good. But let us remember that it was Ike who introduced regime change in Iran and in Guatemala.

17. Who were the second best R & D presidents of the 20th century?
You are right, the vote on DU would be overwhelming for the Roosevelts as best...

I'll go with Clinton and Eisenhower. I don't see how anyone who didn't manage to get reelected could qualify and that doesn't leave a lot of choices.

25. For Democrats JFK for Republicans Reagan
Edited on Sun Sep-14-03 05:42 PM by Hippo_Tron
JFK's great society was great. He helped put an end to organized crime and started up the peace corps. While I can't stand Reagan's family values bullshit I really liked his foreign policy and his domestic policy was okay, but it could've been better. Unfortunately what spawned out of the Reagan revolution were scum like Dubya and Newt Gingrich.

Otherwise, I would say LBJ and NO repuke. That is, LBJ without Vietnam, since we are excluding factors that can not be excluded in reality.
