At this time of election year, polls are only good for one thing...
Propaganda, pure and simple. They will not have any resemblance to reality come November next year. Bush's number's will not be 60%. They will not be 55%. They will be somewhere near 50% if the pollsters have their say. It will be a "tossup" election, just as it usually has been in the past. Then, if it turns out that Bush is defeated in a landslide, they would simply say that the turnout for the Democrats was far larger than anyone imagined. Chances are it will be a close election.

Of course, high numbers at this time - so far from the election - only prop up the failure we now have in the White House. It defines the reality of the voting public without actually having to count votes. We might find it hard to believe that someone that has driven our economy into the ditch, perhaps over the cliff is a fairer description, is running near 60% in the polls. Any person looking at it realistically would question those types of numbers.

We might surmise that the war is keeping his numbers up but it is doubtful that the majority really feel the war was a good idea, that Bush didn't lie about his reasons for going to war, and that the $87 billion could not be better spent here at home. Regardless, this time next year, people will be more concerned about their savings accounts, their jobs - if they have one - and the huge deficits that are dragging our economy into a great funk. So polls at this time are actually meaningless.
