Edited on Sun Sep-14-03 08:44 PM by Born_a_Democrat
I mean there are some quotes like :

If this nation winds up with another Clinton-type as president, how long will it take for a police state to follow?

That make me laugh...Isn't it usually Republicans that want more Police Powers while Privacy be dammed?

Or how about this one?

Tough beans for the crooks.
Lock 'em up and toss away the key.
If they whine too much, fry 'em.

I just don't know what to say about that one except (I want to be there the day this guy is declared an "enemy combattant" for joining a militia up in Northern BUTT FUCK Montana)

But other than a couple of people...most of those freepers are against the PA...we must be in the Twilight Zone....

Let's review Clinton's record:

Key escrow.

The Clipper Chip.

Telecom wiretap acts.

UCITA.

Carnavore.

4. Seems like #4 'Noachian' wasn't doing too bad till the last sentence.
"In all probability this board, and these postings, are being put into a database to be scanned by government officials for comments made here about the opposition to the PA, opposition the government itself, and whatever else comes into the minds of government bureaucrats. There was a time when this would have been unthinkable.

If this nation winds up with another Clinton-type as president, how long will it take for a police state to follow?"

5. The one guy had a really great post
until he wrote this line:

"If this nation winds up with another Clinton-type as president, how long will it take for a police state to follow?"

Is he kidding? How many times during Clinton's presidency did people get banished to "First Ammendment Zones"? How many people were arrested and detained without access to a lawyer? How many FBI agents were tracking your checked-out library books? How many people were called "traitors" or "unpatriotic" when they criticized Clinton?

Oh well, at least their eyes have been opened. Hopefully their sight will clear up in time.

6. ....
I agree about his post. I mean....come on! Clinton isn't the one that instituted the act he was just arguing against...that just baffled me. A clearly intelligent person just misses the point.

17. as much as I dislike
Bush and Ashroft first amendment zones did NOT start with them.
As I pointed out in another thread they were set up at both the Dem & Repug conventions, the presidential debates and lots of other places. I believe they were first used to keep anti-abortion people from
getting too close to clinics.

Of course, there is the mandatory Clinton slam-

"It doesn't take much of an imagination to think what President Hillary could do to folks with the laws we already have on the books."

We had terrorist events in the 90s under Clinton.....did you see Bill and Hillary rushing up to Congress with pre-written "Patriot Act"? No.

You did see Hillary trying to develop a universal health care plan for all Americans, but, of course, that was way too much for the taxcut and spend crowd.

I'd have thought that the whole nonsense with "Bill and Hillary" would have gone away by now, in light of the true abuses that we have suffered under with this truly criminal administration. But I guess long held delusions on one's political stands are just too deeply ingrained and it's too damn painful to admit that the guy you voted for is commiting the crimes and destroying this country for real.

10. well, actually. . .
Clinton DID jump in and introduce the "Omnibus Anti-Terror Act" soon after the Oklahoma City bombing, which did whittle away a few of our civil liberties.

because of posts like this:
Tough beans for the crooks.
Lock 'em up and toss away the key.
If they whine too much, fry 'em.

But I'm glad I decided to take a chance:
...There are enough laws, and vague ones at that, that you might be a "criminal" and not even know it...

Once you put a law on the books that can be interpreted by any police department as they see fit you have a potential disaster in the offing...who will we catch next with the PA? Speeders? People smoking in restaurants?

That question I can answer: Bush protestors and liberal/Dem activists.

...Who here would let Bill or Hillary do this while smiling quietly? Anybody?

...How many people can honestly say that they haven't broken any laws in the last 24 hours?

...Ashcroft/Bush...move us closer to tyranny...Bush is a national disgrace, and Ashcroft should be imprisoned for treason...Anybody but Bush in 2004! End Tyranny!

Wow, indeed.

ABB by a damned freeper!!!

I liked this guys reply to the Clinton-type police state question.

"If this nation winds up with another Clinton-type as president, how long will it take for a police state to follow?"

This is already a quasi-police state. Another "terrorist act", and the ensuing legislation that follows will likely make it a full blown police state.

14. Actually ...
While I think Clinton was a great president, he didn't have a very good civil liberties record at all. He passed the Omnibus Terrorist Bill, and had an abysmal record with internet privacy (he wanted to outlaw encryption that the government couldn't break).

(For the record (to prevent a flame war): I still think he was a great president and his other strong points outweighed those two weak points).

Proof that if Dems hit this issue hard it could make a huge difference in states with lots of libertarian leaning rethugs--NV, NM, AZ, MN, MO, AR.
