Why All The Monitoring Of Free Republic ?????
I have noticed an increasing number of posts that discuss what the freepers are discussing on Free Republic. I am honestly just curious: WHY?

I saw a subject heading yesterday that said, "O'Bannon has died - monitoring free republic now!" The poster then went on to describe what was being said - in great detail - about Governor O'Bannon's death on Free Republic! I thought that most bizarre. Again - Why? Why does anybody here give a flying *%$! what they are thinking and writing on Free Republic? When a Repub dies do they post it and say, "Monitoring Du Now !?!?!" It seems I am constantly seeing posts with links to freeper threads. It just seems like a silly waste of time and bizarre that people HERE would really care what the people THERE are saying about every little issue. Maybe it's just me - but I could care less. I know, I know, "Then don't read the threads," and "Know your enemy!" That's all fine and good except that I am seeing more posts inside threads that have nothing to do with Free Republic with the latest freeper monitoring alerts.....and I don't need to read discussion threads on a far-right Internet board to know the enemy.

I am just honestly curious, as I just don't get it and it's all becoming very tiring - my two cents tonight.

1. Why not?
One always wants to know what the opposition is thinking.

2. Have You Ever Turned Your Back On A Rabid Dog?
It's not a recommended practice.

7. Not a good analogy
If I am confronted by a rapid dog - I'll deal with it and certainly wouldn't turn my back. However, I don't go looking for rapid dogs. When confronted by a freeper - I deal with 'em. Again however, I don't go looking for freepers to deal with. Just a difference in interests and what we want to expend our energy on I suppose.

3. I'm with you
I don't visit FR, I don't listen to Limbaugh, I don't read Coulter. I really don't care what they think; after three sentences it's obvious it's idealogical nonsense.

Some people are entertained; I'd rather have a sharp stick in the eye.

4. Know your enemy. Basic intel practice.
Do they have WMD's? etc.

5. Especially when it's not interesting
the Freepers seem to know even less about Clark than I do, that whole thread was just predictable knee-jerk anti-dem.

I'm more interested when they talk about republicans, since at least they know what they're talking about.

8. It's entertaining
and informative. I will go thru a few long FR threads and then when I talk to my conservative friends, I say what they are going to say before they say it. It's fun.

9. Seems to be for entertainment...
...and sometimes to see if they are going to "FReep" certain events (like the Hillary Clinton book signings).

Plus I think it gets us all aggravated enough to keep fighting.

10. Because DU doesn't follow Jim Rob's edict that he issued for FR
Jim Rob has said on more than one occasion that he didn't want to see any "crap" from DU (his words) posted in Free Republic.

I don't know why some folks like to post FR crap in DU, either they want to convince the choir that Freepers are irrational, or they want people to go to FR and get infected.

11. Beats me
I'm not the least bit interested in what they have to say. Sure wouldn't want to spend any time seeking their comments out when I could be doing something more constructive - like watchting paint dry.

12. Information...
The perspective may be different, but FR has often links to informative articles. You also occasionally find insightful stuff on it. Not all the time, but hey, it's often better than the fluff news you find on T.V. (I'd listen to a good GOP-rant with a fact I didn't know over a puppy-dogs-kittens-latest-teenybop-idol entertainment story any day.)

Of course, YMMV. Some people in both forums can't stand to see any opinions opposite of theirs.

13. It's accidentally a good portal for progressive links.
Anything that pisses them off has to be good.
Besides, they filter the wingnut stuff for us pretty well, too.

It's really not a bad thing that a few folks on the board keep an eye on these clowns. My better half, for example, will check on their board a couple of times a day. She keeps me posted.

Know your enemy, even if your enemy is sub-par.

16. I think it's interesting
I'm actually glad when people post it here. I don't go to that site, because it's too much garbage, it overwhelms me. But when people post snippets of it here it's usually interesting or amusing. It's good to keep an eye on what they are doing.

If you aren't interested in the threads, you don't have to read them. There are plenty of threads on DU I'm not interested in and don't read.

17. As Lenny Bruce explained it, "Liberals will read anything a bigot writes."
And the more I read DU, the more I'm forced to agree with him.

"Look at what this bigoted bastard wrote!"
"Did you see the crap Anthrax Coulter wrote this morning?"
"Can you believe what Limpballs just said?!"
"Take a look at what the Freepers are spewing!"

I don't have time for it. . . life's too damn short to waste on useless talk. . . but there are plenty here who let those fools live in their head rent free.

18. nobody forces you to open those threads...
....so if you don't wanna read fr stuff, don't click.

Some of us monitor to see what the bushbots and dittoheads are doing and thinking because you can't undermine the right unless you know them.

20. I don't *monitor* FR
I go there occasionally to read different perspectives. Generally it strenghthens my own perspective on things to do so. Sometimes it just pisses me off, but in a way that ultimately adds "fuel to my fire."

I recommend it, but as with all things, in moderation ;)
