The delay of the recall in CA is a good thing me-thinks!
I've been watching all polls on this for weeks and it seems to me that the recall has been losing stream as the days move on... I just read a poll yesterday that shows it's dropped to 50-50...

Hasn't it been reported that the longer this thing drags on the more likely it will lose steam and fail? That's been my observation.

1. It is a good thing, BUT
Edited on Mon Sep-15-03 12:47 PM by leftyandproud
It aint gonna hold!!!..no basis for it. They are using the same machines they've been using for 60 years. How exactly are punch cards discriminatory? I vote with them every election year...very simple process. If you can't figure out how to vote properly with decades old technology, you shouldn't be voting IMO.

5. Because of the number of candidates,
voters are going to have to pick one card out of a fistful. This greatly increases the chance of error, if not totally discouraging some voters like the elderly. Why oh why didn't they have a run-off election first among the candidates? They could then come up with only one candidate per party, so maybe there would be at the most five candidates running against Davis.

7. oooh...
now I get it...
It would be a lot of trouble to find your candidate...taking a few extra minutes to cast the vote...still, not impossible to do

9. Whatever happened to the PAPER TRAIL!!??
Whats it gonna be guys? Are we applauding this decision because computer voting machines will be in all districts?? Isn't this what 90% of DUers want to AVOID during the presidential elections next year?? We need a PAPER TRAIL...remember?

23. Agree 100%
It's always possible that the solution is worse than the problem. In this case, it is paramount. Do the computer voting machines print out paper stamped ballots when the voting is done or is it completely all electronic?

15. Clete ;it is based on punch card vs touch screen
poor precints have punch card with a 2-4% error rate. Touch screen in the rich counties have a .5% rate. the ruling is based on Bush V Gore , ironic isn't it?

11. CNN reporting (Bob Franken)
that the CA Sec of State had already CERTIFIED that the punch ballot machines were faulty and UNACCEPTABLE and had to be replaced by March. Ergo, the court found this to be a "classic case" of voting rights issue/disenfranchisement.

13. Hey Lefty
It is gonna hold because some counties have mover to electronic and have discards their punch card systems. The argument is that because of error rates in the two systems when compared, there is an equal protection problem.

WHat the SUpreme Court ruled in Bush V. gore. is that there wa a reuiremnt that all ballots be held to identical standard and that all the recount efforts had to be univerally applied and equal. The CA argument is that from an equal protection and civeil right biew all the ballots have to be the same methodology.

SInce some counties have gotten rifd of the punch cards there is only one viable option which is electroinc and because that is not required to be in place until march.. that is the earliest the recall can be held.

2. I agree, I think it's a great thing
It also takes away the Arnie, Maria, lovefest on Oprah. I doubt that will get much play. Maybe those Arnie scandals will get known, Davis can work to build public support, will have more polling places, and better turnout.

3. Negative
The judges ruled because not everyone will be able to use the new paperless voting machines.

This gives Diebold another chance to steal an election.

4. I oppose the delay because of the cost
We've already spent millions sending out sample ballots. The delay is not going to materially affect the outcome. Sure, more voters may ahow up and more Democrats may show up, but Davis is busily digging himself in deeper with each thing he says or does.

I think the effect of the delay will be a wash in terms of results.

20. How is it going to cost more? I thought the ballots were already
made up and even candidates who dropped out would still be on it.

The polls I thought were leaning towards a decrease in those interested in recalling Davis. If the economy improves between now and then, that will improve his chances even more.

16. It's the wrong &%##@*%ed monkey wrench, people!
The sooner this farce is over, the better! I was hoping I could take a short break after the recall election, but now that's screwed.

Okay, deep breath, deep breath...

I hope this gives everyone here a stronger incentive to go out and KILL these damned electronic voting machines before they kill the United States. Our nation is almost dead. We can save it, but we have to fight.

21. They will be void
IF the delay stands, the absentee ballots are void. (I sent mine)

Since the new ballot will include the 2004 primary candidates and measures, the recall ballots for Oct 7 are invalid.

22. I agree, very good
Now Arnold is going to get the scrutiny he deserves, he will drop out before the year is out. Issa will jump back in, then things will get interesting.

Holding the recall during the Democratic Primaries can't be of any help to the Republicans. Poor Karl he's not having a good day.

Hey Turd Blossom, it could be worse, you could have a conscience, then how would sleep?

He can withstand the thumbscrews for three more weeks, but if the election is delayed till April, he will probably cave.

25. If the recall gets tied into the 3/2/04 primary election, that's good!
Much more likely to have more Democrats come to the polls on that date. Our presidential candidates can make their statements on this issue, as well.
