John Paul II question. Anyone know of this?
Edited on Sun Apr-03-05 09:58 AM by LibraLiz1973
I was reading a previous post about JP1 & his murder. Very interesting. I would love to read the book about that but the only one listed was $89 because it is out of print.

While I was wandering around I found a link back to this D.U.
topic. Basically saying that JP2 had been married & has children.

I can't imagine the reason for the secrecy, as 39 popes have in fact been married.

I've been looking around on the internets but can find nothing else other than one sentence in this bio:
http://www.canoe.ca/CNEWSWorldYouth/0718_wojtyla-sun.html

"Some had quietly whispered about the young priest, wondering whether he once had a wife or fiancee."

On Edit:
1. Had anyone ever heard this before?

2. Does anyone know of other web sites to look at or books to read?

Since I'd not heard it before I was interested.

3. Buy this book instead
The Pontiff in Winter
Triumph and Conflict in the Reign of John Paul II
By John Cornwell

Cornwall wrote harshly of Pius XII and his failings during the Nazi era in Europe. And he doesn't withhold criticism of JP II regarding the child abuse scandal.

Cornwall's book is an excellent source on the life of JP II.

The stuff you mentioned is all speculation.

5. I'll have to look for that.
I love reading about historical figures.

Of course what I posted earlier was speculation. Hence why I did not present it as fact. Also, since it is the first I've heard of it I think of it as being pretty far fetched. That said, the grassy knoll once seemed far fetched too. Just saying! ;)

Thanks for the recommendation!!

4. Has anyone read either of these?
In God's Name
by David A. Yallop

or

A Thief in the Night: The Death of Pope John Paul I
by John Cornwell

The first one is the one I was saying I want to read. It is out of print, currently used selling for $89.

6. I've read the Yallop book.
It was very interesting indeed. Why not try your library, it was
a big seller at the time, and it may still be on library shelves.

Haven't read the Cornwell book, but I did suggest to my library
that they get in The Pontiff in Winter - already, I guess, a little
outdated, but I'd like to read it anyway.

As for those rumours - I've never heard those before, and I suspect
it's scuttlebutt.

7. too easy to create doubt....
A catholic pope isn't just the CEO of a huge biz; the 'biz' also involves one 'holy spirit' whether you believe it or not.....the 'church' is older then the english language- that's proof that the 'holy spirit' has a hand in keeping the church alive (needless to say, corrupt popes/ official greed/crimes against everybody/lies officially condoned and almost endless stories of personal unholy conduct of certain popes/church leaders shoulda doomed the church by a thousand years ago, but like humanity, it somehow is still here) JP 2 has his failing: he saw communism and collective will as untrustworthy, yet fascism and power madness of individuals and corporations were overlooked somewhat...he knew what really happened behind the scenes of the urban legend news the MSM pushed like cheap dope on every street corner; yet he said nada....the pope reputedly says a full rosary everyday; his personal wealth = about 15 k, and he's been a public persona (no one who ever met him has ever forgotten it) since his youth...a certain amount of larceny is required of the pope, to protect the church, but the stuff you mention probably misinfo...
mind you, the popes are at the centre of tremendous forces, which have a heartless qulity about them, and often involve dreadfully antisocial conveniences (the freemasons, cia's, jp2's, kgb's, opus dei, skull and boners, kakaka's, cnn's cbs's, illuminati's, girl guide's etc) which sometimes means going along to get along....
