Why Didn't They Compare Reagan/Junior To Pope While He Was Alive?
Fellow DU'er Horse With No Name Made such a good point about using the Pope's death politically, and ignoring the MANY ways he opposed Corporate Fascism and Neo-Conservatie Agenda.

6. Not that my opinion counts

But I find that sacrilegious and arrogant for them to compare themselves to the Pope. I can't see how it could ever help the GOP to do such a thing. A wise Democrat should be questioning enough to ask one of the pontificating bastages why they wouldn't have DARED say anything like that during the Pope's life--why wait til he was dead? Whether or not the Pope has a conservative stance or not, I can assure you one thing--he did not SUPPORT the chimperor and his policies and has said as much.

The proselytizing of the Pope in his death sounds like something that could backfire, because while many American's are reverent to the Pope and sympathetic to his death, many did not follow his teachings 100% because of the hard line he took, even the Catholics.

1. I was just saying the same thing to my parents and some friends...

yesterday when that twisted logic started up. It's so dishonest of the neo-cons to pick and choose "storylines" that require picking and choosing facts.

This Pope's major message went against much of what the GOP stands for. I'm catholic and get so outraged when I hear this drivel coming from conservatives and their lap-dog media.

The Pope's main message was one of MERCY, COMPASSION AND INCLUSION (especially for the underpriviledged) as is the message of catholicism and christianity in general. It's the hardliners who bastardize the message into a selfserving, negative and "over the top"-style vigilence.

There are over 1 billion catholics in the world. American catholics make up maybe 10% of them....and it is much less than half of these that prescrib to anything close to what the neo-cons tout on social agenda.

The world's catholics (and christians in general) were 90% for Kerry in November. Religion or not, that says a lot.

They ought to just shut up and get the facts straight.
