I have converted my husband.
He is now officially a Democrat. :bounce:

He grew up in the repub party, but stopped voting repub years before I met him. He has become more liberal since we have been together. But much of his hate for Bush and the current repubs comes from the fact that he really is conservative. He thinks we should live within our means as a country, that government has no place in people's bedrooms and that separation of church and state is an excellent thing.

Anyway, I organized my precinct over the weekend and I needed the extra demo vote to make it official. So we changed his registration. What is funny, he is more excited than I am about GOTV planning, etc. Hey, he is a lovable guy, what can I say

:loveya:

10. Back in the day he would have been a progressive republican,
maybe an Eisenhower republican. But he feels that there is no place for him in the modern republican party.

He was deeply angry with his parents for voting bush. Told them he though bush's values violated everything he had been raised to believe.

3. That's great, My mother got converted by John Stweard and
this Schiavo/Pope thing, she's really a stickler for seperation of church and state... funny how the major step the republicans took so recently jarred her awake.

Heck, my grandmother is complaining that Bush was being a mron with stepping in for Schiavo and she has her lips planted as firmly on his ass as he has on hers for being a 'good Christian Woman'.

6. I think that's excellent!
I've seen my husband swing from conservative to liberal during the years of our marriage, in large part because conservatism isn't what it once was, but also due to my influence (I hope). We need all the support we can get!

7. Praise the Lord. One more for our side.
I think the Republicans lost any moral position (if they've ever had any in the last six decades) to lecture anyone on smaller government. The Republican Party IS the party of big government.

11. And he sees that clearly.
Why is it that some people seem to be born able to think for themselves and others can't seem to no matter how bad things get? His family never encouraged political discussion or dissent, either.

And remember, the easiest votes to steal are the ones cast by registered Republicans.

He LOVES talking politics, even more than I do. And he watches all the cable shows and news programs. He would fit right in.

20. College Daughter
My husband is a Republican (Rockefeller type), I am a life long Independent (liberal minded) and so is my older daughter (very liberal). Somehow my younger daughter when she registered to vote at 18 (now 21) was registered as a Republican. She was very, very mad at that. She said she left the space blank and they automatically registered her Republican. Well, when she applied for her absentee ballot last election, there was a section on it for changing party membership. She registered as a Democrat. Shocked my husband to no end. ROFL

Enjoy.

23. How?
My hubby will NOT convert no matter what. Although my incessant talking about it got him saying now "i wish i never voted". His parents are die-hard freepers and I converted him from there into Orthodoxy so maybe some tips will help :)

26. I don't think it was anything I did.
It was what the pugs are doing. It scares him. And he doesn't believe that their agenda and values have any relation to the conservative values he was raised with.

For what it is worth, his parents are not the least bit freeperish. They are fiscally conservative and somewhat narrow minded and incurious about the world. But not full-on nuts. So maybe he has less to overcome than your hubby.
