I don't understand when conservatives say that the French owe us. |
|
I know we help them during World War II. But it seems Conservatives tend to forget what the French did for us during the American Revolution. Without them we'll probably still be a commonwealth country for Great Britain. Then all of our leaders like benjamin franklin, Thomas jefferson would of been hanged by the british and we wouldn't have the constitution that we have now. I just don't get it.

1. They want France to be a US satillite state |

much like the eastern bloc was to the old Soviet Union. Not very honest for a crowd of people supposedly pushing "democracy" in Iraq.

If we had needed England's vote, the Capitol commissary would be serving "Freedom Muffins".

we wouldn't have to fight them in America.
Seems to me like we both benefitted.

8. Both Countries Should Try To Better Understand Each Other |
|
They have fought together many times. General Rochambeau was the architect of the victory at Yorktown. The French committed thousands of troops, their navy, and money to U.S. independence. Cornwallis in fact offered to surrender his sword to Rochambeau after his defeat, but the General instead told him to surrender it to George Washington. Let's not forget the devotion of the Marquis de LaFayette to the cause, including the risk of his life and much of his personal fortune. In World War II, the French Army protected the rear of the British Army as they retreated headlong to Dunkirk. Units from this saved British Army found themselves later in North Africa to open a second front against the Germans and draw away German strength against the Russians. The French also shot down over 1000 German planes during the Battle for France, planes that would not be available to the Germans in the later Battle of Britain. The Free French Air Force pilot Pierre Closterman, fighting out of Britain, was one of the greatest air aces of the war, with approximately 50 kills/probables to his credit. The French volunteer squadrons of the Normandie Niemen within the Russian Army were one of the most highly decorated air units of WWII. The Free French Army helped lift the bloody siege of the American Army at Anzio, Italy when their units pierced the Gustav line, forcing the Germans to retreat. And the French Foreign Legion helped the British Army avoid total rout when they made a brave stand at Bir Hakeim against Rommel. In the Korean War, the French Battalion fought alongside the U.S. Army and won 3 U.S. Presidential Unit Citations for bravery. In Lebannon during Reagan's administration, while over 250 U.S. Marines were dying in a bunker, 56 French marines died alongside them, something never brought to our attention in the U.S. media. In Gulf War I the French also sent considerable numbers of men and materiel and also in Afghanistan. Recently, the French Army rescued U.S. citizens in the Ivory Coast. And the French have devoted considerable intelligence efforts to help the U.S. hunt down Al Qaeda. Yet, Republicans have this French bashing thing. Tonight, I heard O'Reilly actually BLAME the French for dead U.S. soldiers in Iraq because of their lack of cooperation. I guess he would prefer it if they were French dead soldiers instead.

of French products again as well. Said there's a list on his website. Darn him, now his followers will know which products are from France. And I'll have to force the owner of my corner grocery store to go against his conscience again and buy more Perrier.

11. We owe them more than anything else |
|
They did most of the hard fighting in WWI, in WWII they served all over the place for the allies even after France fell, and have been one of our staunchest allies ever since 1777 until the recent war because of stupid shit WE did. I don't see how they owe us.

that we did not enter WWII to help the French. If we'd wanted to help the French we'd been there 3 years earlier! At least. We fought WWII to save ourselves we just did it on French soil (fewer US civilian casualties and France was liberated, as someone said earlier, we both benefited.)

When dumbasses echo that stupid sentiment "They owe us". It just proves to me how ignorant an un-educated of this country's history they are.

has always been great sport. The Brits are far more advanced in it than we are, though.
Yes, the French can be deliberately annoying and refuse to believe that Louis XIV and Napolean are really dead and they are no longer the center of the civilized world, but they owe us nothing. We owe them incalculable debts.
Not the least is the knowledge that there are still people who will stand up in the face of arrogance and stupidity.
Surrender monkeys my ass. Gimme another bottle of real Champagne to go with my Anjou pear and Brie.
