2 + 2 = 5
Because I have masochistic proclivities, I occasionally peruse rightwingers' blogs and websites. One of the more ridiculous routines that shows up every now and then is the whining about how the economy sucks and how consequently their wages are dropping, but they will then invariably segue into another "Bush & Co is our saviour and the evil Democrats are trying to ruin our country" spiel. E.g., from one Reagan-adoring conservative's blog:

I haven't been paid fifteen dollars an hour for almost a decade. That's a quarter of my standard rate for that sort of work. I took it anyway. Why? Because I needed the work ....

Hey, could you maybe figure out how to put 2 and 2 together? Bush & Co obviously couldn't care less about the troubles of the middle class. Keep voting Repub and please sink or swim on your own and keep the whining to yourselves like good rugged individualists and trickle down adherents. I'm sorry for the lack of empathy but here's a few of my gripes about this situation you find yourselves in:

First, it's your beloved leader, the Boy Blunder and his All-Star Squad of Conservative Blockheads, who are too stupid and incompetent to do anything to fix our country's economic troubles. These are the geniuses who consider a recession nothing more than another great opportunity to slash taxes for the tiny handful of wealthy americans while everyone else is forced to make sacrifices as the wage gap becomes wider.

Second, you happen to be the people who posit personal responsibility and morality (the lack of it, that is) as the primary cause of peoples' economic failures. But now that you are the one who is flailing financially it's fine to bitch, whine, and scapegoat others for your problems. It's never your fault, the Dems and leftists are all out to get ya. Right.

Third, umm... I'm not sure what the third point is but I'll probably think of something else to bash you with later. But here's the thing, now that the garbage of rightwing ideology is hitting you in pocketbook/wallet it's the perfect time to open your eyes and see that Bush & Co is one of the worst things that has happened to the USA in a long time. And your simplistic collectivistic mindset is part of the problem, you really need to at least make an attempt to reach for a more realistic view of the world around you, something a bit more mature than the juvenile wailing of Rush, Hannity, Coulter, et al.

1. When I mention the economy to freepers
they start a tirade on Clinton. Why these people hate Clinton I can't fathom, though I have some ideas. First of all, they are embarrassed that HE was able to balance the budget. Second of all, they are jealous of the fact he had an affair.

The important thing when talking to them is to keep your cool and cite facts. After a while, they slink away, because it is hard to fight against the truth.
