Pat Buchanan - "what if the Pope had been appointed to the SC... |

the Democrats would filibuster him for his pro-life ultra-conservative beliefs".

Yes, he went there - and then cleverly tried to paint a rift between Democrats and the Pope/Catholic Church because they "don't believe in life".
OMFG.

Just asking. I don't know the Papal position on that issue.

Damn. And to think I was almost suckered in by his willingness to call out the neocon cabal in the administration. I guess "culture war" Buchanan never really left us.

Pope was not a citizen. Let's just start with that. And would Pat be able to tell us what the Pope's opinion on the legality of tort reform would be or constitutional law or health law? What would his views be on International Courts?
Pat is a one trick pony. If it doesn't reflect some pro-life agenda it has no relevance.

It is ironic that Buchanan decries those who would oppose the Pope's nomination to the Supreme Court and assumes Dems would hate it purely on a religious basis, but he would oppose the nomination of Rev. Jackson or Rev. Sharpton. Of course, he would oppose it the basis race, but we could accuse him of anti-Christian bias (Gee, this is easy Mr. Buchanan --- I like your duplicitous game).

16. It's a slander on the Pope and a condemnation of the Court. |
|
What Buchanan's saying is that the Pope lacked the personal integrity to rule according to the Constitution even though centuries of Church Doctrine is what establishes a Papal ruling. He's also saying (admitting?) that Justices rule according to their religious beliefs! Buchanan is ethically corrupt and it is embedded in his thought processes - even to the point he was blind to these slanders.

26. Let's see: Pope ... Judge. Hmmm ... two different jobs |
|
One of 'em requires a law degree. And an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States. The other one requires an allegiance to NO constitution but to 2,000 years of dogma. Guess which one ISN'T "Supreme Court Justice."
I admired this Pope. I have been deeply moved by his passing. But I wouldn't have wanted him on the Court.

27. You can always count on Pat Buchanan for cultural division -- |

-- and fear-mongering just as patrons of Jack Ruby's place in the early 60s could count on jiggles and booze.
I predict the two will room together in Hell.

the Pope had weighed in on Buchanan's 'positive polarization' memo in the early 70s?
The best thing about Pat is that he brings the necessary surreal quality to any debate. Illegal immigration is a problem? Build a wall around America! Pat allows us to see the fallacies of carrying many ideas to their logical conclusions.
