Poll question: If You Had To Pick 1 Candidate For Dean To Have A One-On-One Debate With..
Who would it be and why?

I'd say Kerry, not because I'm backing him, but because I think it'd be an excellent debate that would test Dean's skills (outside of Edwards there probably isn't a Dem as good a debater as Kerry) and his ability to stand toe-to-toe with someone who supported the war and flush out, once and for all, all the arguments and theories as to why Kerry supported it and why Dean opposed it.

You?

1. Said Kucinich
but the only choice is Bush. Why should our side rip each other apart?

5. A twist of the request...
Dean asked Kerry to address him face-to-face on the issues. He did not request a 1-1 debate which he knew would unfairly draw attention away from the other 7 candidates. Kerry will have ample opportunity to do so in the remaining 9-candidate demates if he so chooses. To offer a 1-1 debate on the false premise that it was a Dean request is just dishonest.

7. The debate "request"
xame from Kerry, not Dean. I don't know what it means to "address him face-to-face on the issues". It sounds like a debate.

11. In speaking of some Kerry comments, Dean said "I wish he'd say those
things to my face." Kerry's response was to challenge Dean to a 1-1 debate. That's how this whole thing started, if I'm not mistaken.

8. Oh, you mean Democratic candidate.
Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 09:48 AM by ginantonic40
My first thought was Bush. In fact I'd love to see any of the Democratic contenders debate Bush. And I mean a real debate, not these 90 second sound bite fiestas that the media passes off for debates. Can you imagine Bush having to come up with a cogent defense of his record? Now that would be 'must see TV'.

As far as winnowing the Democratic slate, I'd like to see a round table discussion. A couple of hours of salon style discussion of ideas and policies. Take off the suits and ties, mix up a pitcher of dirty martinis and shoot the sh!t.

9. why limit it to Dean?
why don't we have one-on-one debates between Kerry and Gep, Gep and Sharpton, Sharpton and Kucinich and so on?

You get my point?

10. I don't believe the candidates should be debating each other one on one
however I chose Sharpton since I think it would be fun to watch Al kick his ass. In fact if we were to have one on one debates I think everyone should have to go up against Rev Al, it would make the whole deal a hell of a lot more interesting. We could call them the Rev Al litmus test, if you can't get past Sharpton, you aren't ready for prime time republicans.

If Dean is the man so many people think he is he will hold up, if not he might not be the best choice.
