I'm thinking.....it's either just timing and coincidental as Clark needs a pre-lude to his speech on the 19th...or, he is a General and it is a race....is this cut off the food supply to your enemy?

Time for street parties across the country to hold donation parties.
Always have to laugh at the press when reporting all this...the old tag line about the General who has no political experience--I dont know any general who doesnt have political experience. No repugnant had any qualms about Colin Powell's lack of political experience. Or Shrub's lack of any experience at all.

that was a dirty selfish prick move
that's politics huh? It's really sad when fellow democrats can metaphorically sucker punch another candidate and it's shrugged off.
I don't know if it was Clarks decision, and I hope it wasn't, because who'sever it was clearly doesn't give a shit about fucking up one of the most important moments in a man's life and everyone who cares about that man

Edwards has been campaigning for MONTHS! If Edwards is upset about the timing (which I doubt) he could always reschedule his own announcement for a more desireable impact. He's already obviously running anyway, so what would it really matter. It may even be a smart move with the hurricane coming and eating up air time.
Especially in NORTH CAROLINA, where he's from, where he's announcing and WHERE THE HURRICANE is about to smash into.

|
Oh, jeez. I am supporting Dean, but I like Edwards, was just trying to find out why it all happened this morning. But be honest, Clark has also been campaigning for a while for sure.
I like most of the candidates, and I get upset when any of them shows lack of support toward each other. I think most of my posts reflect that. I don't care who it is.
I did not have the TV on, and all the posts were saying Clark announced, that is why I asked. I knew Edwards was announcing. Should I have asked if Clark deflected attention from Edwards?
OH, and your post indicates that you think perhaps Edwards inconvenienced Clark. You said Edwards could have changed his. A little one-sided there.

and I think they like trying to pit the dems against one another, and "shape the news/events", and that we should be paying very close attention to this.

Just shows how "confusing" ?? this DU board can get, don't you think?
I would say that since I did not even turn on the TV, asked my husband what he saw on TV about it, he said he did not see anything except that Edwards was going to announce around 10.......that I got a wee little bit confused by propaganda on this forum.
That makes my point. Thanks.

I think Edwards probably accepts that the media wants anyone but him to be the nominee, and he's coming up with strategies to deal with it.

16. Was just talking about this with another DUer |
|
I didn't know there was any announcement in the last hour--did I miss something?? Anyway, there is a HUGE problem that Clark is/was running into. It's the damn hurricane. By tomorrow all the talk is going to be on that storm and when it hits it will take all of the oxygen the news media has to give. I know he said he would announce before Sept 19th so he has to keep that deadline in mind. But he absolutely cannot announce Thursday or even Wednesday afternoon with this clogging up the airwaves. I don't think he was trying at all to slap Edwards and I don't think he views Edwards as one of the guys he has to beat.

18. Clark did not pre empt Edwards |
|
He had a team gathered in Ark and told them yes in fact he had made a decision but he did not tell them what it was. It was one of those whowas questioned and said yes in fact that he had decided to run but would be making an announcement on Wed. With the hurricane coming I think it was a wise move. Everyone knew it was going to happen this week. My thought is anyone overly critical of him because of the "timing" has another agenda. Actually it gives Edwards a higher profile because he was not polling well and coupled with the CA recall being put on hold it is a great morning for politics and Edwards is getting some benefit. Candy Crowely on right now.

I was asking a question without the TV on, just what I read here at DU. I am a Dean supporter without an agenda on anybody, thank you very much.
So if I am confused, could it be the agendas here at DU that are confusing?
Now I will turn on the TV and seek to figure it out. Apparently I get biased news here. Could that be?

|
Gut tells me it's a dissembling winger in the press who wants to draw fire away from Edwards and just continue the perception of disorganization among the Dems. If someone from the Clark camp did it, I'm sure they're catching some hell right now, and it's not such a big whup.
It's annoying that my guy can't seem to get a break, but c'est la guerre.
Let's not jump to conclusions; Clark seems like an honorable guy and I don't think he'd condone something like that. Surely it's a small gain for the perception of ill-will it would raise should it be shown to be true.
I truly doubt it's some evil back-room scheming by Clark himself to cruelly steal Edwards' thunder. Chill, folks.

Clark has no reason to move in on Edwards like that.
I see ZERO coverage of Edwards' announcement, and I'm more inclined to think it's the media fault rather than Clark's, and that some bigmouth leaked.
I'll be interested to see what Clark says this afternoon on Inside Edition, if Woodruff asks him about it. He seems to have easy access to CNN at least, and is quick on the draw lately (with the Dean VP thing, etc.).

Not letting someone have his deserved day, especially when it's been long-announced, is creepy. I say this more at the detriment of the media than anyone else. This is a fuck-job from the media. If Clark's people had something to do with it, they're pure filth.
What a disgusting, annoying, no-win situation.
