1. there are 2 MILLION Ferrel cats in WI. They want to remove them from |
|
the "Protected" status. That means some means can be established to control them. No body wants to start shooting them right now. If you are worried about some nut killing your cat don't let it out alone.

6. My demacats stay in the yard when they're out...don't bother a |

thing and have collars and tags...shit in the box outside as they are picky about their toilet habits and anyone fucks with them and they have me to deal with so not worried about it. Very lucky to live in a dem neighborhood. Most cat lovers. It's the kitties in Wisconsin that are having the problem.

Wisconsin has a large number of feral cats (couple million, IIRC). These are generally hated by people with property because they kill song birds, game birds and domestic farm animals - chickens, ducks, etc.
The proposal is to allow shooting them as varmints - unprotected, no bag limit small game, basically.
Feral cats generally are pains in the butt. The issue is that this would allow someone to shoot someone's outdoor-roaming, non-feral Fluffy or Boo Boo.

9. Similar Problems In Other Areas |
|
Unfortunately the media plays it up that people are gonna go hunting for someone's tabby, but you point out, properly, the problem ferral cats and other "domestic" animals have created in many rural areas.
There was a local problem in a rural area in Illinois where dogs, cats, hamsters, fish and other animals had been abandoned and were creating problems with local habitat. One "hero" released a pihrana in a local fishing pond that had to be totally drained...killing ALL the fish, and then the massive expense of restocking it. Another reported of dogs and raccoons going at it...with the racoons ending up on the losing end...with missing legs and serious injuries. No trash dumpster was safe and it was truly becoming a public health problem.
I'm far from an expert on this topic and find this debate interesting as I see the merit for controls on domestic animals since they can have an effect on the local ecosystem...especially now as more and more people move into once former rural areas and introduce more and more of these animals into places they weren't before.

5. Not supporting it, but... |
|
it is being considered that there be hunting allowed for FERAL cats. I heard on the news this morning that they claim each feral cat kills 1000 mammals and song birds. I think the real problem is that the feral cats are killing the game birds, so they want to double their hunting fun and kill cats so they can kill birds.
