How much would a gallon of gas cost today? |
|
I remember in the early '70s, a gallon in Chicago cost around 30 cents, and an average house cost, I think, $30K
In the early '80s it was $1.50 but then declined. An average house cost $75K.
How much, then, would a gallon of gas cost today?

1. In today's dollars, a gallon of gas cost about $3.00 in 1981. |
|
So, we're not quite at the all-time high yet.

4. I don't think using the housing comparison works |
|
Mainly because you are only looking at two prices, both of which could be determined by a wide variety of unrelated factors.
But, I understand that you were asking for the cost of gas in 1981, converted to 2005 dollars.
And, I have no idea.
