We've still got a LOT of work to do.
(And yes, I know Dean leads in Iowa & New Hampshire.)

5. I'm from CT
and I must say Lieberman is a total joke. I'll vote for a 3rd party candidate before I vote for him again!

8. What has Lieberman done that's wrong for Connecticut?
He's actually a good Senator from a local perspective.

6. Actually, that last Gallup (I think that was the one) Poll showed
that Gephardt was the leader. So the fat lady has not sung and we don't even have a fat lady in sight.

19. ABC/WashPost: Dean Leads in NATIONAL Poll of likely voters
Howard Dean leads among likely Democratic voters in the new ABC News/Washington Post national poll just released. Joseph Lieberman leads among all Democrats nationally.

Among likely voters, Dean is at 20%, Kerry and Lieberman are at 19%, and Richard Gephardt is at 15%. The poll does include Wesley Clark, and he's at 6%. Then Sharpton at 5%.

Not all the methodology data is posted yet (sample size, margin of error).

10. At this point all the polling tells us
is name recognition. Here on DU, we all recognize all the names, and most of us have opinions based at least in small part on some knowledge of some or maybe even all of the candidates. Even the various rallies -- and I went to the Harkin Steak Fry in Iowa this last weekend -- draw mainly political junkies of one kind or another.

The vast majority of people out there really don't give a shit about an election that's over a year away. And they're right.

12. Why Lieberman is polling "high"
Simple:

Most people still have not heard of the other candidates. These are average, everyday working folks who will take the time to vote but don't bother with politics much outside of that. You ask them who they'd "Vote" for they'll say Lieberman simply because he's the only one with real name recognition because he was the VP candidate (well actually winner) in 2000.

Right now Iowa, NH and the Super Tuesday states are the most important indicators of who are the democratic frontrunners. Dems aren't bothering with states like Pennsylvania since by the time their primary rolls around the nomination usually is pretty much all but decided. (BTW, Philly Dean group has been wonderful with adopting Delaware since our primary is a week after NH).

The only nationwide poll that I think has any real merits is when we ask the nation who would you vote for: Bush or the Democratic (unnamed) candidate. Right now that unnamed candidate is starting to pull ahead.

13. Lets say it comes down to Republican {R} or Republican {D}.
Republican {R} will implement more republican policies and do more damage to the Republican party.

Republican {D} will implement republican policies and will have the blame for the failure of his and this administration laid on the Democratic party.

If it comes down to a choice between Bush {R} or Leiberman {D} I’ll hold my nose and vote Bush.

14. you have to be ill
Lieberman will not take away a woman's right to choose. He has a great rating from both NARAL and Planned Parenthood

Lieberman will not weaken environment laws. He's had excellent ratings from the League of Conservation Voters (anywhere from 85-100% in the past several years).

Lierberman has supported every democratic filibuster against right-wing ideologues.

Personally, I don't think Lieberman has a snowball's chance in hell, but that's just me. But if he gets it I'll not only vote for him, but I'll do it with a smile on my face AND I'll go out and help get other people to the polls that day and have them vote for Lieberman.

There is NOTHING that anyone can tell me that 4 years of Lieberman would be any worse that 4 more years of Bush.

15. Would you REALLY do that to all the rest of us here--and to America?
Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 03:24 PM by GainesT1958
Beeeeecause...that's EXACTLY what you'd be doing! AND..not to mention...to those military families who are being LIED to now, and SCREWED out of any benefits when they return. And to the environment...and to our basic freedoms--down the drain. And to the unemployed...who would face four more years of hopelessness in finding work. Let me ask you that again: Would you REALLY do that to us? x(

If you would honestly put this nation through four more years of Dub's absolute RUINATION of it, God help us...and you!

But I'll give you JUST ONE THING: When you say that, at least you're coming out and saying it---unlike all of those supporters of Ralphie Boy, who don't want to admit they're REALLY voting for four more long, hard years of Dub.

That "Take my little red wagon and go home" stance is just what got us into the twelve ugly years of Reagan-Bush decline. Only when we finally shed that stupid mentality, and nominated Clinton in 1992, did we see our party--and America--turn around, at long last.

Please, everybody, remember to stick with that "ANYONE but Bush 2004" mentality. Whomever we support in the primaries, we're going to need all of it we can get come a year from now!

:kick:

B-)
