'End of Days' on my local TV News
:wtf:
BTW I'm not kidding
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Tonight on my local 24 Toledo 'news'

Disasters, Are they signs spelling DOOM for the world. Tonight we take an in depth look at the signs and talk to local religious leaders to see if the End of Days is here!

Plus the Book of Revelations - One that gives us clues as to when the world may be comming to an end. But what about the other books that are out there?

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

I thought that the news was supposed to be about news, not a platform for religious bullsheist to be shoved down our throat.

1. Just as I suspected: NBC affiliate
Relax. They're not trying to convert you or anything. They're just whoring for the upcoming Dateline and "Revelations" premiere, that's all. :sarcasm:

15. NBC has been plugging this since Palm Sunday
through all the Shivio mess and run up to Easter. They also had a Holy Week "Religion in America" segment on NBC Nightly News that was tailored to born-agains. It had undertones to plug this "miniseries".

29. Oh good grief
I guess they missed it when Christ said WE DON'T KNOW!!!!! My God. These people are really eating it up for raitings aren't they? I take the Book of Revelation by a grain of salt. I follow Christ not that.

It's Revelation not Revelations.

Sorry. That just rankles my nerves.

I'm in the Toledo area too! Isn't 24 News like amateur night? I don't usually watch any of the local news nor do I get the Blade. I do read the City Paper, though.

8. Toledo - The News Monopoly Town
It's not supposed to be Amateur, I merely watched the add while channel surfing and felt it was disticntly disgusting.

I'm half surprised they weren't pushing it on the 'Blade's' channel or their newspaper or the cable company monopoly they control... or their radio stations...

10. Americans have lost the ability to critically think
Well at least the media has.

Look at these headlines:

Religion under a secular assault.
http://tinyurl.com/65lwv

Prayers For U.S. Hostage In Iraq
http://tinyurl.com/5bgt2

Nothing in the article about making contractors safer, leaving Iraq, the fraudulent reasons for being there, or anything about resolving the problem. The article sends the message to just pray and be absolved. Pray once, maybe twice and your conscious will be cleansed before you jump in your SUV headed for the mall. We have lost ability to critically think. I hope you all are getting a better understanding of why this country is doomed.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

24. Don't forget to buy LOTS of magical Teddy Bears!
Notice how whenever tragedy hits locally, ad-hoc "Teddy Bear Shrines" sprout up at the scene?

People buy dressed-up Teddy Bears, plop them on top of the TV, and then I guess the dolls are supposed to intercede for you with the Great Gas in the Sky or something when you pray to them...

Our Superstitous Nation.

13. Red Giant
End of day occurs when the sun becomes a red giant in a billion or so years and swallows terra firma. Whether we or something resembling us exists at the time makes little difference.

carbonized memory of the space-time continuum.

Not like it'll matter, either we'll survive, thrive and find a way to go somewhere else in the galaxy, even if it takes us a long time to get there.

(On edit) Or... well, whatever evolves after us might... we have found an asteroid that supposedly has our name on it 800 years from now and there may be others that are closer that we just haven't spotted yet. We as the Human race need to stop being so arrogant and start planning ahead and for the entire planet, not just for our wallets.

34. true
There are more geniuses now than ever and for two people like Einstien and Von Neuman to have existed at the same time a relatively short period ago was also an anomaly. Point is we probably are cave men, chimps even, compared to what could potentially evolve from us...not to mention ultra-scary advances in computer AI.

But the point still stands that the end of days technically occurs when the planet no longer rotates 'round the sun...is swallowed up by it. Even if jesus comes through the clouds to save, or damn, all the people the planet itself will still be here, though the bible(scientific resource that it is) is mum on this.

17. Guess Rove figures TBN, EWTN, WHT, etc. Isn't doing it for him.
Bad enough there's at LEAST 2 channels of "Name it and CLAIM it! Come on our End-time Holyland Tour (if the Lawd 'tarries')..." in every market, now he's got the MSM doing it, too.

Glad I don't work there. I'd have to tell a News director "Look, I don't GIVE a fuck what our Bush Pioneer Owner got from Karl Rove, I put up with enough of this bullshit HOOEY when I worked for Lester Sumrall. This ain't News, and I ain't Engineering it."

21. I sadly agree
They're mainly trying to cash in on things like the Passion of the Christ, Melt Gibson's remake of the midievel morality play used to stir Antisemetic feelings, just like it did last year when it was released.

Personally, I couldn't believe it when I watched the program, it was interviews with the worst priests/preachers in town who all agreed the world was close to ending because 'the bible says so'.

I have one thing to say, "The bible also says tithe 10% income and to care for the 'least among us' but these who they interviewed aren't the kind who are really about walking the walk, just talking the talk.

THey did have a university scholar as their balance point who bsically said, "Signs have been all filled since the 8th century and many scholars consider it an allegorical account."

Sigh, this isn't news though, this is pop and distraction.

They didn't cover the bombings, but they interviewed a 'brave brave patriotic soldier' who's leg was blown off at the knee that was a local.

The propoganda was so thick that I was reminded why I don't generally watch the local news.

22. Religion as News.
Not stuff like the choosing of the new Pope, I mean this "Left Behind" bullshit. I mean, HOW freaking superstitous can you get?

What would happen if a local tavern known for being the hang-out of the town's less-than-savory characters burned down? Would they have a live report from the station's "Signs and Wonders Reporter" on how this is a sign of Gawd's "Cleansing"?

We already have Dobson on our local Teeee-Veee every morning, delivering a little happy homily, and the station tells me I'm a "crank" because I'm the "only one complaining" about having this Dominionist Fascist on my morning news.

Great column:

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/gate/archive/2005/04/13/notes041305.DTL&nl=fix

"Ah, but we have bad news there, too, because, according to the cute Rapture Index, that adorable little Web site o' righteousness that charts the various global "signs" leading up to the impending Second Coming, the Rapture should be happening, like, right now. Or maybe last week.

In fact, the index now stands at 152, well above the "Oh sweet Jesus take me now" threshold. Which means, of course, that the Second Coming might have already come and gone, and Jesus may have swooped down and taken one look at what we've done to the place and said, you've got to be freakin' kidding me, and said, sorry but no one here deserves much of anything illuminative or enlightened right now. Can't you just hear all those gay-hatin' born-again Christians saying, what the hell?"

32. When the tsunami took so many lives
I wondered what they would see in it.
What if they were the ones Jesus took? After all Jesus is quoted saying things like "It will be just like Noah’s day” there shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken and the other left"

And the root word for what they interpret as "caught up" also includes being snatched suddenly or taken by force.

Sounds like the tsunami to me...big event, many taken suddenly by waters and a neighbor or family member not taken. Maybe he took the ones he liked. Maybe the bodies were the clothing they assume will be left behind.

I honestly wondered if any end timers would look at the possibility. But of course, they weren't largely "Christians" (as though Jesus was).

But heck, if it is an event to believe in I vote for those victims being those Christ welcomed and "met in the clouds".
