23. Mine too. It was exactly a year ago yesterday that she died... |
|
at the too young age of 71. Alas, she was also a Canadian and always voted for the Liberal party. I miss her terribly.

9. My mother's a Democrat |
|
She has gotten more conservative as she has gotten older but she says that she'll always vote for a pro choice candidate, which bationally is usually a Democrat.

My mother's political opinions are whatever her husband gives her. If she had it her way I'd shut up about politics and find me a husband. But then again my mother was a product of the 50's - it was her upbringing!

Of course, there's also what one's father was, heavily correlated with what one's mother was.

Democrat In Everything But Name
Voted Democratic in almost every election, but refused to ever call herself one for some reason. Then again, the same applies to me, but that's because I'm way to the left of the party.

My grandfather was a Republican politican, so Mom grew up as a Republican.
She loathed the Kennedys even though she was an Irish Catholic.
Her affiliation with the Democratic Party came late in life. She liked the Clintons. She hated what the Republicans were doing to the Clintons. She is passionately anti-Bush. She says she will never vote for another Republican in her life again.
I have been a Democrat all my adult life. I think I'm the only one in my immediate family who can say that.

21. My Mom was anti-political |
|
She said the whole lot of them were miserable lying bastards not worth the effort to vote for. She used to think differently back before the 60's, though, but I'm not sure who she voted for. I'm guessing she was a moderate Independent. Hunting was always big where I grew up, so she would never vote for anyone who wasn't pro gun. Aside from that very big issue everything else she would lean Democratic, but guns would make my family vote Republican in a heart beat.

22. Lifelong Republican until about 4 years ago |
|
She quit when they went too far to the right for her taste.
She never did vote a straight party line anyway. Voted for JFK in 1960 for example.

Still is, and a hell of an interesting woman. She's 84. She had an interesting career before having 4 kids, married late for the time, had all of us after she was 35. She worked for the OSS (office of Strageic Services) in Europe. She's fluent in 4 languages. Went on to work for the Voice of America. 3x delegate to the National Convention, active in the League of Women Voters. She's an autocratic, annoying grande dame, but brilliant, funny and passionate in her devotion to the Democratic Party.

28. No "Communist" choice??? |
|
My mother's a stone-cold Leninist Communist. Seriously, I'm not bullshitting. OTOH, my father is a moderate-liberal whose semi-socially conservative, but he ALWAYS votes Democratic.
Wellstone was TOO RIGHT WING in my mother's eyes. SERIOUSLY.
