"Joe six-pack's" take on the Clark Announcement....
Let me preface this by saying I am a Dean Supporter...I Like Kerry, and I always thought Edwards was the most desirable accross many red states but....

I was following a GMC Jimmy home today and it had Korean War veteran License plate and a simple bumper sticker, It was black with yellow lettering and simply said IRAQ = VIETNAM. I followed him into the local party store to see where he got the bumper sticker, the first like it I had seen. (From a member of his local VFW BTW, not officially sanctioned I am required to add :) )
I also asked him what he thought about Wesley Clark announcing officially tomorrow, and here is what he said:
"I don't care If Gen. Clark is on a ticket with Josef Stalin I am definately voting for him!"
When pressed for a reason he quite simply said, He is a military man who abhorrs war, and has been there and knows how bad it is, just like me. He then asked me where he could get a Wes Clark for Pres. Bumper sticker, so I got his information and will let him know as soon as I can find one.

Now am I officially on the Clark bandwagon? No, but a Dean/Clark, Clark/Dean, Kerry/Clark, Clark/Edwards ticket is certainly what looks on the street as our surest bet to get this stupid shrub out of Washington D.C,.

Just thought I would pass along some real experiences on the thoughts of other folks...if anyone else gets some "pre-polling" please share!

NAMASTE

Coyul

3. I haven't felt such happiness over a presidential announcement
in years. I remember crying when Carter was elected and the security
with the Bill and Al Show? Priceless. Clark has my vote and that of my parents. Hands down.

RV, voting for my nephew, BosniaJosh's general who happens to be a highly qualified and dignified man. Did I say he was smart and educated? Spell that, Dubya!

17. It's starting up here, too.
Of course, the obsessed anti-Clark crowd will soon have to come up with some new mindless catch-phrases to repeat 1000 times a day, since their old ones haven't held up too well.

9. Coyul--and that's why we can't stupidly blow this
Of course, these guys will vote for Clark if they are going to back away from Bush. He has in their eyes the "right" to be against this war. They know he still supports the troops. But, they are not going to vote for Dean because they still have this feeling that a guy who didn't back the war and who had no military service is a guy who really deep in his heart doesn't give a shit about GI's. That's why it's so frustrating that we could actually end up throwing away this tremendous opportunity to finally get to a whole shit pile of males - the place where we always poll very weak.

30. Did you see the Gladiator? The troops were loyal to the end to their
general even against Caesar. Clark and his military record against Monkeyboy and his AWOL record, his favored status due to a rich daddy and influence in the guards...yep, the pugs ought to be real scared.

7. but he didn't "abhor" wars enough to keep him from fighting them
When pressed for a reason he quite simply said, He is a military man who abhorrs war, and has been there and knows how bad it is, just like me.

if Clark is so smart, then why did he devote his entire career to the institution that furthers the thing that he claims to abhor? personally i'd much rather vote for an anti-war candidate whose chosen profession was SAVING lives rather than destroying them.

10. if I recall,
the focus of the armed forces for about fifteen or twenty years was in keeping the peace, helping in disasters, etc. War? It wasn't on the agenda because we were PART of the world, not AGAINST it. Bush has taken our peace time army and turned it into a club.

For Wesley Clark to be in the army with this mission, a mission that has been trumpeted as the justification, etc. for the armed forces is an honorable thing.

Also, we live in a world with Miloslovics, etc. To not have a military in the world we live in is pie in the sky. I HATE WAR! I go back in memory to Korea. But our army has been pitched as our guardians and a guardian for peace in the world and a resource to help in disaster. Only the Knucklebutt in the white house would use it for unilateral war, something clark has always opposed.

19. You think having a military career means you further the cause of war?
Jesus, no wonder the GI's think liberals don't support them. I'm about as anti-war as you can get, but I support our soldiers, who devote their lives to protecting this country, and I think the military is a totally honorable career.

What about the military's role as peacekeeper? You think they're just standing around, waiting for there to be a war so they can shed some blood? Bullshit. The whole POINT of the military is to avoid war. Keeping the peace is HARDER than going to war. That's why Chimpy went to war--he always takes the easy way out.

The constitution may protect your freedoms, but it's the grunt on the ground that protects and defends the constitution from all enemies both foreign and domestic.

As a former member of the military, I'll take the general over the doctor and I was a supporter of the doctor until today.

12. every vet i know
from ww2 to vietnam says the same thing. "because i was there i know war is wrong." and something else - going to war is one thing when we must defend ourselves, it is never just when it is a pre-emptive attack. that is a message we must continue to stay on.

22. Exactly....
I was raised and live in an ultra-conservative
small town in Michigan. Gun Country. Bush Country.

I have for months discussed politics with my very
conservative family and friends. They don't like
Bush but none of them would ever vote for Dean,
Kerry, or Lieb. They would vote for Rush Limbaugh
before they would touch Dennis Kucinich. However,
about half of them give serious consideration when
we discuss Clark, and a few stated they would cross
party lines.

It's called electability and reaching across party
lines. Clark has that quality. I have tried to express
it here on DU for 3 months with little avail. Some
people still think Kucinich could do it, he may be
big-hearted and a great Democrat, but to think he
could beat Bush when he is polling near the bottom
is is unrealistic.

I hope people start to realize how much Clark is the
fusion candidate and would actually unite the whole
country against Bush, which is really what we need.

This is not the DLC vs "real democrats" as some on
DU would like it to be.

This is Democracy vs Bush and fascism. Let's remember
that.

24. Great post
It happened at work today: The janitor came around at the end of the day...he is a vet, thinks Dems tax and spend when they are not trying to take his guns, he said he's voting for Clark because he's not a politician and doesn't owe everyone something. BTW, I've spend hours talking to guy...he's on to bush and asscroft--but would stay home if offered a traditional Dem.

Top spot or second spot, he draws where others don't.
