2. You agree with JP Patches?????
Wow! As for Nicastro. I agree with the fact that she waffled a little bit and I almost thought of voting against her after that "handout" of money to that developer Richard Hedreen but I will forgive her just once. She still does have an effective voice as a progressive or pseudo-progressive and that is why I will vote her in. If she goofs up again then I will not be so keen to vote for her again.

3. I will vote after work
but our votes on the espresso tax will have to cancel each other out.

Also, vote for the people's choices for the monorail board:
Position 8 - Cindi Laws
Position 9 - Cleve Stockmeyer

5. I am definitely voting no on the espresso tax
I worked in a very small espresso shop for a while and I can't imagine how to keep track of espresso vs. non/espresso drinks. Also, only 10% of any revenue is guaranteed for low income child care, and it's a fluctuating revenue, which is not especially helpful to those who depend on it. I am not anti-tax in the least, but I cannot vote yes on this one. There is also no connection between the two - drinking lattes and funding childcare - so it's a band aid at best.

I will vote yes on the marijuana bill.

I am also voting for Judi Nicastro. In all the years I have lived in Seattle, she is the absolute only person I have EVER heard address tenants' rights - and she's worked on it, too. Pick up the Stranger and read their endorsement of her. You might change your mind.

In any event - VOTE!

6. Yeah!
I agree with all your positions. Nicastro hasn't been perfect, but she's gotten a rap that's much worse than she deserves. I used to work for a small espresso chain (3 stores), and it will definitely hit the small places hard, while Starbucks may just absorb the costs and not raise prices. And of course I'll be voting yes on 75. :smoke:

But most importantly, regardless of how you vote, VOTE!

7. I voted no on the espresso tax, as well...
for the same reasons, and a few others.

I've just heard that as of this evening at 11:30 the espresso tax is failing big time.

8. I changed my mind....I voted no on the espresso tax.
Edited on Wed Sep-17-03 03:25 PM by Cascadian
The reason I changed my mind? What bothered me the most was that only 10% of the tax would fund the preschools and day care that the tax was intended. That concerned me a little.

The thing that did bug me was I was listening to KIRO 710 AM last night and they announced that the tax was going to be defeated. They interviewed a woman who said she was going to "celebrate with a tall mocha hazelnut latte!" I thought that was a little arrogant. Even though people did not support this, there was no need to boast about it.

Honestly, I do not drink coffee that much and the tax wouldn't affected me very much but I think they can find a better way to fund these important programs. I hope that the espresso shops and stands in town will now come together and start a fund to help the kids as a gesture. It's the least they can do.
