Edwards is positioning for VP or Cabinet slot |
|
Sorry to those of you who think he needs to be on the top of the ticket, but I can't see it. Since he's giving up his Senate seat, it's either a post in the new administration or back to the torts in North Carolina.
Dean-Edwards.
Clark-Edwards.
Kerry-Edwards.
Don't those all sound great?

I'm so pleased that you can divine the future.
Maybe we should hold the primaries tomorrow?
The need for instant gratification on this board, sometimes I just don't get it.

3. Here's my take when he announced he wouldn't run for Senate |
|
He didn't do this to end up back home eating grits. He also knows his numbers aren't that strong. He has sealed a deal somewhere via the DNC. He's too politically intelligent to know that Dean is gonna indisputably be 'the man' so he didn't cut deals with Dean (though Dean would need a southern boy). He cut deals with someone else. I think there is a lot more to come---this race has just begun.

5. he's a senator and already announced he was not running for re-election |
|
I think there is a seat for him in any admin. I think he or Elliot Spitzer from NY would make a great Atty General.

6. He has already said he's not running. |
|
His seat is up in 2004--he's bowed out for Erskine Bowles to run (presumably).
His seat has never lasted more than one term for many years now. He stood a chance to lose it, and who knows? Maybe his not seeking re-election will buck history enough that a Dem gets the seat.

And he already announced that he's not going to run for it again. And yes, the seat is very vulnerable.
I think it was HUGE mistake on his part to give up the seat. He could be a great presidential candidate some day, but he needs a position from which to launch. He gave his up.

10. I'd call it 50-50 to hold his seat |
|
Erskine Bowles ran a credible race against Elizabeth Dole. He could win it, but his opponent is credible too.
I would say it will depend on the presidential race. If Bush wins N Carolina by 7 % I think Bowles can still eke out a win. If Bush wins by 15 %, that's probably too much of a cross-over to expect from Bowles.

When he gets a little more experience I believe he is Presidential timber. Yes, a VP run would be great. I believe Edwards has a fairly progressive streak and has been a solid advocate for workers rights and cost externaliation, family farms and the environment some of my issues.
I don't know much about how he voted on the "free"-trade deals signed over the past decade but when he speaks it sounds like he knows they are a big boondoggle for globalization.
Kerry_Edwards would be fine with me.
