I LOATHE Liberal Poltical Pundits! |
|
Now that I have your attention...
I don't loathe them--many serve a purpose, but I am finding that they can be just as clueless as the right-wing nuts on Fox. They don't understand the Dean phenomenon, and so they simply buy into the lies that he can't win. He can win, and the reason is that the pundits--liberal or conservative--live in their own isolated world and really don't see or understand the anger there is in the real world over the economy, Iraq, and the bending over and taking it quietly of most Dems in Congress. There is something basically wrong with washington, and this has translated into how the economy has tanked, how Iraq is a quagmire, and how corporate greed has the eyes and ears of every poltiician, while most people feel that NO ONE speaks for them.
All the other candidates call dish Bush as much as they want to, but unless they realize how deep the anger and resentment is--they will be the ones who will be un-electable.

1. They're picked for being centrists |
|
...or inept liberals.
That's what you get when big money makes the decisions in media: They will not tolerate ideas that challenge the religious faith in markets that they espouse--- no matter how high the potential ratings.
They will tolerate change about some things for the sake of popularity and ratings, but not when it comes to economics. On that subject, the media today is a full-tilt brainwashing operation.

In E. L. Doctorow's "The Book of Daniel", there's a part where the Isaacson's sit listening to the radio, hearing a debate between a conservative and an inept liberal (sort of like Hannity and Colmes). They know he's picked because he's inept, wishy-washy and just a punching bag for the other guy, but they root for him anyway.
Pat Buchanan and Michael Kinsley from the old Crossfire are a case in point. Michael Kinsley looks like a nerdy college professor, Buchanan seems more like the guy who runs the local Knights of Columbus.
These sort of things lower your standards I suppose, so you're happy for anything. Once I was watching the new Crossfire and Carville seemed unhappy with the Democrats not fighting against the estate tax repeal. He said "If we don't fight for this, what are we for? You have to draw the line somewhere". He acted as if it was a lost cause but he seemed upset anyway.
The reality is that unlike Europe, corporations have been given control of virtually all of our radio, UHF and VHF bands, and what you hear is pretty much what you'd expect from a corporation. Luckily there are radio networks like Pacifica for those lucky enough to get it, as the struggle for control of the airwaves continues.

...it's also all corporations.
The difference is that some of them are PUBLICLY funded by a simple fee (unlike PBS, which is a charity funded by the political process and private corporations).
Pacifica survives more on principle, bless them.
