We all know what a stampede is, it is when the herd jumps and all runs in one direction. And we all know what causes it; fear. Someone jumps and shouts “Wolf” and the whole heard runs in the opposite direction.
That is what it feels like to me the last few days here at DU. Some are trying to cause a stampede to the Clark campaign with the fearful notion that the stupid, shallow, Joe six pack crowd will somehow tip the election to bush if we do not give them what they want; A military man, a terminator, a Rambo like president, because they are to simple of mind to think for themselves and they want a drill Sargent daddy to make them feel secure. Perhaps there are some like that but I suggest that those people will drop Clark in a heartbeat at the first sign of “weakness” and vote for bush anyway. And you can bet that the media will have plenty to convince them that he is weak. But I have been around to long to be herded in that manner. And I know that sometimes the one that starts a stampede is not necessarily doing it for the sake of the herd. If the stampede is running to a cliff and goes over the edge it is easy pickings for the hunter.

there was a wave of abusive newbies a while ago that supported Clark, and I felt like I was being slapped around by a drill seargent.
Some of the Clark banner ads freaked me out a little, one of them had Clark pointing at me in an unnerving way.
But, the fact that it's not working too well makes me feel better, especially with all the talk about fascism.

2. The "stampede" are the people on this site bashing Clark, their fear is |
|
that people will go to him because of the lack luster preformance of the current field of candiates. Dean has got a certain small segement of the population on fire, but it is the ideological children of the McGovern, I have three people that were voted for McGovern in 72, tell me this. Dean is the McGovern of this election, he is the one the Bush team wants to run against.

Yes I first heard that weeks ago as a RW talking point. I voted for McGovern and Dean is no McGovern.

how things play out. There's a lot of campaigning to do, a convention, then a general election. Anybody but Bush.

I've been urging Clark to run for several months now. Meanwhile, the anti-Clarks have been whining that he is whishy washy for not announcing his intentions. Lo and behold, he is expected to announce tomorrow, one full day after Edwards announced, and two full days after Kerry announced. Bill Clinton waited until October to announce. The whining was clearly not justified. To suggest that I, or any of the other early Clark supporters would ever consider voting for George Bush is laughable. We're planning on voting AGAINST Bush, and Clark is the biggest chad we can punch. I also think you should forgive us Clark fans, for some of us have been fans for quite awhile, and we have been getting more and more excited as the anticipated announcement approaches. I don't think there's anything wrong with out mounting excitement. As for security, I'll take Clark over Bush any day, and most of the other nine for that matter.

We should not be offended by your enthusiasm for Clark that is perfectly OK with me. But when I hear the RW talking points being repeated by them I get a little paranoid. And you remember the saying that just because you are paranoid does not mean that they are not out to get you.
