She's almost a caricature of herself. Jesus. I almost feel sorry for the woman.

1. Have you seen "The Eyes of Tammy Faye"?
Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 08:13 PM by QC
It will make you love her. (Well, maybe not that, but it does make her seem much more sympathetic.)

6. Love that movie!
And I'll never forget that she had a guest on her show who was suffering from AIDS, early on in the epidemic, back when most religious "leaders" were still members of the "it's divine retribution for their hideous perversion" school of thought.

4. Okay, no offense to evangelical Christians, but...
...I also came across this story about Hurricane Isabel:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A20155-2003Sep16?language=printer.

Notice the last two paragraphs:

"Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson prayed on his Christian Broadcasting Network, based in Virginia Beach, that Isabel would turn from the coast. He asked God to put a "wall of protection" around Virginia Beach and the East Coast."

"In the name of Jesus, we reach out our hand in faith and we command that storm to cease its forward motion to the north and to turn and to go out into the sea," Robertson prayed on "The 700 Club."

Jesus, take care of that storm for us! Are you kidding me?

5. Tammy Faye Is A TRUE Survivor
I think she looks fine! You have to see a documentary film called, "The Eyes of Tammy Faye." You will never see her the same again.

It's truly very good. By the way, I agree with you above about Pat Robertson - what a nut. AND, you should hear JIM Bakker these days. Those two LEARNED A LOT.

On Edit: Oops....here's the link:

9. Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker
were fall guys. Jerry Foulwill basically screwed them (and Jimmy Swaggart) over to get to their followers. Once discredited, he moved in like a shark and went for the attack.

11. Except that...
Jimmy Swaggart went right back to being a shyster preacher. The Bakker's are truly neat people. And there's no question that Jerry Falwell is a complete $*&$%#@#$ !!

14. agreed...
but you gotta admit the PTL/swaggart thing was a set up...Foulwill used them like he uses the Repugs...

If there's any justice in this world Foulwill will end up dying of shingles.

15. Horatio Alger fable and traffic-accident gawk-fest
Below is the best possible review of that movie, taken from www.allmovie.com

The Eyes of Tammy Faye offers an unusual mixture of Horatio Alger fable and traffic-accident gawk-fest. The story of Tammy Faye Bakker Messner's life is so "American dream" in its arc, yet so unlikely in its details, that fans of Dolly Parton, Martha Stewart, Hillary Clinton, and Judy Garland alike should find some kind of resonance in the tales of her ups and downs.

Needless to say, producers/directors Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato don't have to try hard to keep their snapshot vibrant. They just let the puppeteer/singer/spiritual leader be Tammy Faye for 80 minutes and keep their cameras rolling. The intertitles add color — how can you not love sock-puppets swathed in shadows who utter phrases like "Into the lion's den...roar!" with real feeling?

Yet even this kitsch detail has a dark edge to it — just like the life of the lady herself. Messner appears on camera pitching talk show ideas to jaded network executives, discussing her makeup secrets, and picking up her new husband from prison after he's released — all without a single hint of irony or shame.

And she cries a lot. Oh, how she cries. The filmmakers intersperse old TV footage with present-day interviews and live-action footage, while drag superstar RuPaul Charles narrates respectfully and unobtrusively. Audiences may well find themselves speaking of poor, triumphant Tammy with a little more respect in their voices after they've seen this utterly entertaining piece of propaganda. — Brian J. Dillard

13. Are you guys nuts. They bilked Mucho monies out of people
to the tune of $65 mil a year, and that was in 81 just before his tryst with Jessica Hahn.

Calculate the lost revenues over the past 15 years and that one fuck cost them over a $bil making it one of the most expensive fucks of all time. Plus the dude had to spend time in jail while the lolo wife skipped out to marry some other stud, so much for marrying for life like they vowed.

Read HOLY TERROR by Jim Seigleman and Flo Conway. Its all there except the Hahn/jail part.
