As of Tuesday, Sept. 16, 297 U.S. soldiers have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq, according to the Department of Defense.

The British military has reported 49 deaths. Denmark's military has reported one death.

On or since May 1, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 159 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq, according to the latest Defense Department figures.

The number is 301 notifications, but that includes (I believe) 6 who died before the invasion began. The last notification listed was 9/14. I think that two more died this week so that would be right - 297.
