Dean Campaign Announces Major Endorsement
Dean Campaign Announces Major Endorsement

BURLINGTON--Dean for America announced tonight the endorsement of Avra Siegal, a senior at the University of Michigan. Siegal, a native of Manhattan, was the campaign's 400,000th personal endorsement--a milestone in the campaign's "September to Remember," thirty days that will change politics in America forever.

Avra's endorsement today is an important step for our campaign to take our country back," Governor Dean said. "We're building the greatest grassroots campaign presidential politics has ever seen, and in order to do that, we need to win one American at a time."

2. That's pretty cool. Major endorsement from a regular joe.
Who happened to be the regular joe who pushed the Dean signups over the 400K point. :)

3. "was the 400,000th personal endorsement"...
horseshit...Trippi better not start playing games. I believe in Dean, and I don't want to see him become the typically handled campaign. Stop trying to make everything seem so perfect Trippi, if Siegal was 400,231 then say it that way.

The biggest threat to the Dean campaign is lack of candor...his supporters won't dismiss him for all of the attacks by other candidates, UNLESS he is found to be less than truthful. We're a forgiving and understanding bunch Trippi, but don't even think about lying to us. We'll dump you so quick that your head will spin.

6. WTF?
You're using a computer. I take it from that that it's not that difficult to figure out that the EXACT 400,000th person from an on-line sign-up is that tough to figure out.

Why on earth would you impugn Trippi's or the campaign's integrity (a) over something pretty darned unimportant to start with and (b) without an iota of cause?

Ridiculous.

7. You're right...
I totally misunderstood the announcement and had no reason to be so critical. I'm not sure what I was thinking. Sorry to all Dean supporters...I was absolutely wrong on this one.

5. Dean sure knows how to build a strong foundation.
University's bring a lot of votes. Include the alumni too!

Smart move. Good endorsement.

9. Cool!
I think MeetUp Member # 10,000 received some special treatment as well, was flown to NM I think for a Meetup where the Gov. was appearing.

This is much better than Diane Feinstein, in my opinion. :)

12. Meetup number 100,000 was flown to Santa Fe,
where she was a guest of the Dean campaign at a fundraiser and her first Meetup.

The Gov. introduced her to all who attended.

It was a very classy thing for the Dean campaign to do.

Guest Writer: The 100,000th Meetup Volunteer

A push of a computer key, a phone call saying I was the 100,000 Meetup sign in and off I flew to Santa Fe to be introduced to Governor Dean and be part of the Meetup!!

The flight was in a 19 seat propeller plane. Instead of being concerned about my first time on a small plane, I was thrilled to meet the man I consider to be the hope for our future. I arrived in Santa Fe and was taken to the walled adobe rental home Tod and Lisa Nichols opened up for me. Within the hour, I was whisked off to meet Howard Dean. As the Governor entered, people stood and he began to speak.

What a presence! He spoke of restoring America's rightful place and moral leadership in the world. People cheered. He spoke of repealing Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy to pay for universal health care. People cheered. He spoke of trade agreements linked to human rights, labor laws and environmental standards. People cheered.

I witnessed Governor Dean's interactions throughout the evening. He stood with people, focusing on them, discussing concerns, listening and joking. As Governor Dean was walking a young Hispanic boy standing in the crowd asked a question. I was struck by the way the Governor stopped, listened and spoke to the boy. Howard Dean is not your typical politician. He is a man with true care and concern for people.

At the Meetup, Governor Dean's commitment to his beliefs was evident. The energy in the group was intense. Not since the 60's and early 70's have I felt such enthusiasm and strength. His call for unity, social justice, fiscal responsibility, cooperation and respect within America and then into the world was powerful. Governor Dean's message is empowering.

Speaking about Bush's programs Governor Dean has said "We can do better than that!" For all of our children and as well as grandchildren we must do better than that. And as Howard Dean has repeatedly said it is through grassroots efforts that we will do better than that.

13. Well of course I meant 100,000! Oops!
It's just that I recall when the Meetup #s were so much smaller, and we posted updates every few hours.

100,000 Meetup Members, 400,000 signed on, that is amazing. I realize that we need many more to beat Bush, but I have no doubt that this campaign can do it.

11. Now I've figured out why I questioned this announcement to begin with...
"Major Endorsement"...It's wonderful that we could identify the 400,000 supporter of the Dean campaign...that hardly means that they are a major endorsement.

14. It is an impressive milestone
And it fits with the Dean campaign theme of empowering/elevating his grassroots supporters.
