Why the Nazi Issue is Important - Ratzinger. |
|
Edited on Tue Apr-19-05 04:01 PM by dave29
This Pope is a self described fundamentalist. While Nazi's were not religious fundamentalists, they believed in purifying the human race, and it was very much "our way or the railway".
To me, I don't see the difference. Ratzinger wants to "save me" from eternal damnation for not believing as he does, sure he's not threatening to have me cremated, he's just threatening that I will have that happen to me for eternity if I don't agree with him.
These intolerant views are what lead to the destabilization of the world.
Ratzinger should publicly denounce his participation in the Nazi Youth, and recognize, that it is fundamentalism that leads to global destabilization.

1. Except that he WASN'T A NAZI... |
|
and Hitler Youth membership was compulsory and enforced. Kind of like denouncing a Russian who defected to the West during the Cold War for being a member of the Young Pioneers under Stalin and getting drafted into the Red Army to guard a gulag.

2. There's a logic problem with your statement |

Since when is being a member not being a member? Nice repuke-style double-speak there.

so I'll attempt to enlighten you. The Hitler Youth was NOT the Nazi Party; Hitler Youth membership was COMPULSORY for all German adolescents; but not all Hitler Youth members joined the Nazi Party.
(Also, from what I can gather, Ratzinger was a rather reluctant member of the Hitler Youth, who cut out on his obligations after about a year or so and never went back).
No problem with my logic.

5. He wasn't a Nazi Party member. Period. |
|
That's not double-speak, it's knowing what the hell one's talking about.

were when I was between the ages 14-16.
I'm not saying he was a Nazi. But he has never said he wasn't, either, nor has he rejected the fundamentalism that made it so evil.
