Living in the Bush SLIME WARP! * The Horror, The Horror!
While people like Arnold, Bush, Cheney and Rumbow get the big tax breaks this year, look who is paying the price besides your children! I couldn't believe what I was hearing when I saw this WAR STORY on my TV! Then I remembered, that we now have a King instead of a President and we now live in the 'New World Odor', where the sheeple are sheeple and the wanna' be Republican slavemasters know it!

"At a daily rate of $8.10, hospitalized troops, including those wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, are being charged for their meals.

"'I was amazed. I couldn't believe it when I heard it,' said Rep. C.W. Bill Young, R-Fla., chairman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, who has introduced a bill to repeal what he calls an 'offensive' law...

"To make a point about their objection, Young and his wife, Beverly, recently paid the $210.60 hospital from the National Navy Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., for a Marine Corps reservist who lost part of his foot during a recent deployment in which, according to Young, a 10-year-old Iraqi dropped a grenade in the staff sergeant's Humvee."

Any news source that is not a Bush/Cheney Party Organ, is a left wing rag according to the Repig propagandists! The stars and stripes is the soldiers real link to the WORLD! The Pubbies are going to be sadly surprised if the military vote is counted for real next time!

Bush may yet need to send the airborn commandos to rescue Il'Tony! Tony won't look so good upside down! We need to evaluate our top Gubmint employees before they get their raises!

This is the reply I received.

>>>>>>> That is because the Government is paying him BAS to eat off base. It is a normal procedure to charge for meals eaten on base.<<<<<

What is BAS and is this correct? Is this "usual" in the military or is this spin?

16. This is how a Veteran explains this to me.
Edited on Wed Sep-17-03 07:44 AM by in_cog_ni_to
You are given pay for food each month. You are charged for MRE, any meal eaten at a military installation and hospital meals...it's all taken out of that monthly stipend.
Here's what I found the pay to be and an explaination of BAS. I STILL think this stinks! What happens when the BSA funds run out? Does that come out of their own pocket?

The Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS) is meant to offset costs for a member's meals. This allowance is based in the historic origins of the military in which the military provided room and board (or rations) as part of a member's pay. This allowance is not intended to offset the costs of meals for family members. Beginning on January 1 2002, all enlisted members get full BAS, but pay for their meals (including those provided by the government). This is the culmination of the BAS Reform transition period.

Because BAS is intended to provide meals for the servicemember, its level is linked to the price of food. Therefore, each year it is adjusted based upon the increase of the price of food as measured by the USDA food cost index. This is why the increase to BAS will not necessarily be the same percentage as that applied to the increase in the pay table, as annual pay raises are linked to the increase of private sector wages. Because members are assigned to a variety of situations, some of which either mandate or prevent obtaining meals from a government facility, there are two types of BAS, each based on a differing personal circumstance.

2003 BAS Rates

Officers
$167.20/month

Enlisted Members
When authorized to mess separately: $242.81/month
When rations-in-kind are not available: $262.50/month

edited spelling twice! and left out a word... and now I'm going back to bed! :7

19. The Repub house docks the wounded soldiers for meals while
it steals with the other hand!

Snip

Just two months after accepting a raise to an exorbitant $145,100 a year, House representatives are working behind the scenes to enact a "per diem" expense allowance of $165 per working day. With about 151 legislative days per year, the raise would amount to a $25,000-a-year, tax-exempt pay hike.

20. It is a shame the Pubs plot and connive how to get theirs but
Edited on Wed Sep-17-03 01:34 PM by opihimoimoi
when it comes to fairness, our wounded and vets gets shortchanged.

Something is dreadfully wrong with our gubbermint. Too many Pubs making sure their side gets more than fair share. They plot the rules and laws favoring the wealthy and the Pub side. They lie cheat steal like its OK and yet call themselves Conservatives. They twist the facts and denigrate the Liberals like Satanesque. They do all they can for the control its pathetic.

The control they desire fuels the robbery and upsets the balance of fairness.

They are full of it and now the World look at Americans as such, The Pubs give America a very bad name.

Come, its time for a drink, think.
