The question that was never answered. Why did the terrorists give up their lives to strike the WTC? Our fearless leaders said it was because they hate our "freedom"? Why would they hate our "freedom"? It is a question that has never been adequately addressed, in my opinion.
Why do they hate us? Do they hate us or do they hate the US corporate establishment around the world? Are they one and the same? We do know that Osama's crusade was against America's military bases in Saudi Arabia, the Moslem Holy Land.
So we must continue to ask "why". Why are our troops now in Iraq? Is it to protect our "freedoms" or is it to protect US corporate interests? It is important that we not stop asking "Why?".

4. Bush couldn't do anything since he's in business with the Binladens |

and the Saudi royals. Binladen felt safe attacking us whiel Bush was president because everyone knew Bush has been in bed with these people for years - all the way back to Bush I.
That's why it happened under Bush.

...the simplest explanation possible: they 'hate us' because we're free. From the perspective of the Bush* totalitarian government...it's better than telling the truth...which in this case is that they 'hate us' for imperialism and hundreds of military bases and installations on their soil.

we should ask, Why? Is it enough to simply say "they hate our freedom"? Beware of what the government does in your name. You may be hated and not even know the reason...

8. Come on Kentuck. Are you kidding? |

You know damn well americans are too arrogant to ask "why"? To ask why suggests that we may need to change our policy.
We change policy for no one. It would be admitting defeat and we all know that how we "look" to others is more important than anything else.
Personally, I don't think the hijackers (if they existed at all) even knew they were on a suicide mission. I don't even think they knew who they were really working for.
But I understand your point. The suicide bombers do know that they are on a one-way ticket.
Here's my take on the "why". In america we have all the distractions a person could want or handle. We have radio, tv, dvds, vcrs, superbowls, playoffs, movies, suvs, magazines, books, .... We have so many toys, the concept of dying for an idea is ridiculous to us. If we die for a reason, we would miss out on all the toys.
But for people of other cultures, they don't have the toys and distractions that we have. When you have nothing to live for, then its easier to die for an idea.
Your statement is oh so correct. We need to examine what we are doing to people so that we can change. Don't hold your breath though. You will get accused of being anti-american to suggest that we examine our policies.

9. Why do conservatives hate Liberals?... |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-17-03 09:14 AM by Homer12
...Or Republicans hate democrats? Or why they hate Bill CLinton for getting a blowjob?
Islamic Religious Zeolats:
...hate us becuase we have an imperial presence in Saudi Arabia and the middle east.
They hate the USA becuase we project are power onto weaker nations.
They hate us because our culture (both left and right alike) is seen as decadent.
They hate us becuase we have power; while they want that kind of power also.
They hate us becuase they are religious extremists whom want to project their culture onto the world by force if neccesary...
....No, they just like to help to bring down super-powers, it's was hard to give up a great job after they helped to suck resources from the Soviet Union during the first Afghanistan war.
There are many reasons, just as many reasons why republicans and conservatives hate us.
Extremism and Zealotism are states of mind that have an apocoloyptic world view. Why not gamble with everyones life.
GW would know, he's on a crusade from god.
