HEADLINE: The 2004 Election Has Already Been Rigged
I found this article on a site from New Zealand. They know that our country is headed for disaster, why doesn't the average American know that too?

EXCERPT:
The Neocon election rigging juggernaut lurches forward unstoppable in the guise of so-called election reform. Two Republican dominated corporations, Election Systems & Software (ES&S), and Diebold Voting Systems, now control 80% of the vote count in the United States. As this transition has moved forward, a pattern of election upsets which overwhelmingly favor Republican candidates is emerging. These are test runs in preparation for the 2004 presidential selection. The Neocons have determined that elections can be manipulated easily with the new touch screen voting systems and when accompanied by a media pounding of lies the public will accept the rigged election results as fact. The greatest advantage of the new touch screen voting scam is the removal of a paper trail and the blockage of access to the inner workings of the software. When a voter touches the screen to select a candidate there is no confirmation that the machine has actually registered the correct selection. In the old punch-card and fill-in-the-circle paper systems, voters could see their choice marked on the ballot. In the event of any confusion or question, a record of the vote existed and a recount was possible. Since the new electronic systems leave no paper trail there can be no recount and the results must be accepted as fact. Attempts to examine the code used by the machines in Florida were blocked in the courts by the GOP citing, "proprietary/trade secrecy" protections under a law, which made it impossible for the DNC to ascertain how the machines tabulated votes.

It would be admirable if the American people could resist the next rigged presidential election as they did the scam of 2000. Of course the 'Supreme Court five' would uphold the "proprietary/trade secrecy" protections and the bogus election results would be ruled as legitimate. The coming election fraud has been so well planned that it probably won't make it into the courts. With the help of the media, the Neocons will deliver the deathblow to democracy at the touch screen voting terminals.

18. A fix, maybe: Huge polls asking people who they intend to vote for and....
If they intend to actually vote. If we see big differences, it will be obvious. Then again, we'll probably have another civil war at that point.

3. As the head of Diebold said.
I will do what ever it takes to reelect bush*. And Jeb Bush saying in 2000, I will deliver the state of Florida to my brother.

5. Not to be snide or anything
But that's sorta what BevHarris was referring to yesterday when she replied to you that you had a low post count and maybe oughtta educate yourself.

Bev is the one, along with DEMActivist, who have done the vast majority of the work on this issue (tho they've had helpers, some terrific and dynamic people!!) -- and Scoop (Althecat himself) has been marvelous about writing and breaking stories on the subject of BBV.

It's a big subject with lots of tentacles, wrinkles, details, players, etc., etc.

Soooo, perhaps you're willing to help "the average American" learn that the country is headed for disaster?

If we don't fix the voting machine problem, it won't matter who we nominate and we can all save our time, money and energy. Mark my words.

Welcome to DU.

Eloriel

7. OK Look..
I was just trying to add a little more information I found on this subject in to the mix. I know about this. I tell people about this. I am getting a little annoyed at the implications that I am stupid or uniformed on this. I have a MA in Political Communications and Behavior. I am neither stupid or uninformed.

This is the last time I am going to post or read anything on this subject here. Big thanks to you both for the friendly attacks.

9. Ma'am, put your...
... ego in your pocket and understand that while your heart is in the right place, you're _way_ behind the curve on the details. There are about 200 threads that you haven't read on this subject, so you haven't figured all this out in an afternoon.

Read all you can find, please, first.

Cheers.

11. and that was the nail...
I was enjoying reading and participating in some of these threads. It was kinda fun really. I had been lurking for a while and had been reading DU articles since I saw the link to the site from Bush watch in about May of 2001.

Not so much fun any more. Being attacked for adding a snippet of an article was not really what I had in mind when joining. I'd like to thank you, Eloriel, and Bev for ruining the experience for me.

I'm going beack to reading articles only and I am unsubscribing from the list.

For all the blustering that is done on this forum about needing to get liberals and progressives together, you three have done a pretty good job at alienating someone who was just trying to show that this issue is being noticed outside the country.

My views of the world have not changed. Still progressive and liberal minded. However, my views of people on these lists have been quite damaged thanks to you three.

Shalom.

I am proud to see your interest and eagerness. You can and probably will be a valuble asset here at DU if you decide to continue participating.

17. Alright I've thought about it for a few minutes
And I'm not going to let you get away with your accusations.
punpirate says please
liberalnurse graciuosly gives you a link
Eloriel welcomes you
wtmusic says stay tuned
I just tell you al is here
Can you please tell me where anyone has personally attacked you?
And I take offense that you say reading BBV threads was really fun for you and now it is not so you're leaving.

These threads were not posted for your amusement we're fighting fascism here, at least that's my opinion.

If I can shake off being called a drama queen by someone you should be able to hold your own. There's 30,000 people here and you've thought 3 have hurt your feelings so your picking up your toys and going home. You should not, get tough we need you and there is stuff you can do in Texas just stick around and find out.

20. Try the "ignore" feature and hang around.
Don't let the sniping bother you so much. There are a lot of people here and one or two whose posts you don't agree with shouldn't prevent you from staying and contributing to the discussion. You can always remove them from your ignore list later when thing cool down a little.

I think it's great you found that article and posted it here. It shows that the PR setup is working and you are looking at alternative sources for valid information and posting them here. Good job. May your next discovery be a jaw dropper.

12. Okay, now my turn to get in trouble
But don't we need threads posting articles such as this? There are new people dropping in every day who have no clue. These kind of threads are not for the BBV team of brave heros, but for everyone else. A sort of heads up notice for those who do not know.

16. yes we do
I've heard democraticunderground mentioned on C-Span numerous times and if someone new comes here as a result and all they do is read (no posting) this information being on the front page helps get the message out.

I hate that elfwitch felt attacked when she/he was trying to help I'm hoping this can be smoothed out?

Come on guys....be sweet :)

19. The article posted is an example...
... of Al Thompson's exuberance, but is not entirely what most BBV people here entirely espouse.

I've come to admire Al's determination (and his glee at getting out this dirt on the bad guys *g*), but the largest number of us here who've been working on this issue for many months have tried to maintain one specific objective--that electronic voting hurts everyone, regardless of their political orientation. There may be a bias to this issue, but only because the right has so consciously wrapped themselves up in it.

It's a very fine line, separating what is essentially a truly bipartisan issue from what is happening now, especially with Diebold and its CEO, Wally O'Dell, after his recent visits to the Bush "ranch" and his appeals for funds from Ohio Republicans to "deliver the votes" for Bush.

But, either we're partisan, or we're not. I hope that we're not, with regard to this issue. What hurts us in electronic voting hurts Republicans, too.

The article elfwitch posted, along with her comments, indicated that she did not understand the baseline issues in the matter, as have her previous comments. We're trying very hard to get people to understand that electronic voting, without a paper trail, harms everyone--asserting, even vaguely, that this is a Republican plot does no one any good, and shows a failure to examine all the evidence available.

That's why I suggested that s/he read what's been written before. There's a helluva lot of history in this to digest, going back months and months on DU alone, let alone what Bev has accumulated on her site in the research of her book.

Cheers.
