What do you think of next Sect'y of State - William Jefferson Clinton
think about it --

the WHOLE world is extremely hateful of what the Bush
administration has done in the past 3 yrs to the world.

ONCE these PNAC crooks are thrown out in 2004
what a better way to show the world that the dark days
are now over -- that THE BIG DOG has the new American
President's (a DEMOCRAT) power to start straightening
out the total screw-ups of the PNAC cabal.

but alas ---- The BIG DOG might not want that position.

1. He'd be great... but he'd be a lightning rod.
As great as he was for this country, and as criminally under-appreciated as he was, I think it's time for Bill to fade into history--which, I believe will eventually judge him to be one of the best presidents of the 20th century.

5. only in US would he be a lightening rod. The rest of the world...
Sect'y of State is foreign affairs.

The rt-wing repugs can whine & moan all they want,
but it is what the rest of the world perceives of
Clinton that really matters.

Clinton is perceived by the rest of the world
as a man of his word. A man who works for the betterment
of all - not the oil interests as Bush does.

Our allies would welcome Clinton.

7. That's nutz!
Bill is far too young to fade into history! We NEED his talent and intelligence!

Clinton is well respected in the international community. I would say even LIKED! Maybe ambassador to the UN.

I think Bill needs to be in a position where approval isn't a measure of success. His personality needs approval too much, and it has lead him to compromise too often.

11. I'd pick him for UN ambassador
But I think a Secy. of State appointment would draw a little too much fire from DeLay and the other Scaife-heads.

Let Big Dog continue to work behind the scenes -- or as far behind the scenes as it is possible for him to be!

25. You're Thinking of Solicitor General
The Solicitor General appears regularly before the U.S. Supreme Court. Although that would be really cool, naming Clinton as Solicitor General. That might cause a Constitutional crisis.

10. I don't think he can
because he can't be President again, and he would be #4 in line of succession.

On the other hand, are any of these Democrats? ( no need to answer - it was hypothetical)

The Vice President Richard Cheney
Speaker of the House John Dennis Hastert
President pro tempore of the Senate1 Ted Stevens
Secretary of State Colin Powell
Secretary of the Treasury John Snow
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld
Attorney General John Ashcroft
Secretary of the Interior Gale A. Norton
Secretary of Agriculture Ann M. Veneman
Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans
Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao
Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy G. Thompson
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Melquiades Rafael Martinez
Secretary of Transportation Norman Yoshio Mineta
Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham

12. Legally, I believe he could, the succesion would skip over him
just as it would over other people in the line who are naturalized citizens rather than born here.

22. I believe we've covered this point before on DU
Clinton cannot be elected to the post of POTUS, however, he can hold it (by other means such as succession). I believe this is a correct rendering of the 'term limits' amendment.

15. I think he's perfect for the job.
he understands foreign policy and has the respect of much of the world.

Doubt an ex-Pres would be offered a cabinet postion, though. Ex-Pres's have been Chief Justice and Senator, but cabinet secretary seems to be a step down. Would also take the glow off the White House, as he is properly addressed as "President Clinton." Can't really have two of 'em down there, can we?

Perhaps universal international gadfly, a la Carter.

26. Holbrooke as Nat'l Security Advisor?
Then Al Gore as Sec'y of State? Or vice versa?

By the way, remember when it was difficult to find Democrats who had the gravitas for foreign policy positions? Now it's the GOP with that problem.
