Anyone remember this? (Re: Newt and Susan Smith)

I just ran across this on the DNC website and thought it might be a shining example of the kind of maelstrom of shit that will be coming from the Repukes for the next year.

Gingrich Blamed Susan Smith Murders on Democrats On November 5, 1994 —just before the election which made him Speaker —

Gingrich said of South Carolina mother Susan Smith, "I think the mother killing her two children in South Carolina vividly reminds every American how sick the society is getting and how much we have to have change. I think people want to change and the only way you get change is to vote Republican. Thats the message for the last three days."

Stay positive, everyone. Don't do these assholes' jobs for them...

I mean - don't I recall that her Dad was big in either the local GOP or the local Christian Coalition?

Then there was that bi-polar teacher who bore two children to her 13 then14 year old student, whose father was a John Bircher?

Point being Newt just makes stuff up - regardless of what we say. I generally agree that giving fodder is not a good strategy - BUT they say outrageous blatant lies regardless of who they are using (as a poster child or villain).

2. There were more instances than this

In the Chicago suburbs a pregnant woman was murdered and her fetus removed...guess it was simpler than adoption. Gingrich also blamed Democrats. The family had a fit and he had to apologize. He really is despicable.

3. That turned out to be an embarrassment for Newt

Because it turned out that Susan Smith had some mental problems that were the result of being molested over and over again by her step-father or grandfather or some family member, and that family member happened to be a big-wig in their state's Christian Coalition.

4. I point to both these cases...

...whenever I hear some Repug complain about "what was done to Newt" (and blaming the Democrats, not his unruly overreaching "Class of '94"). Newt "did it" to himself.

I also pont to them whenever Newt tries to resurface in public affairs. More than any single individual (with the possible exception of Rush) he is responsible for the utter breakdown of civility of our political system in the past decade.
