I saw the Touch Screen voting machines for the first time. They are so easy to use, but I will say that I did have concerns. Now, look, I am not one of those BBV people. But I used it and had it demonstrated for me. It kind of made me wonder when I found out I couldn't get a reciept of some kind. At least with punchards you used to get that. It seemed so simple but also easy to manipualte.
I asked the Miami-Dade elections lady if it could give out reciepts. She said it didn't and that it would cost too much to have it.

1. I get a receipt at the electronic gas pumps... |
|
why can't we get receipts for voting? Then, if necessary, the poll workers could make the machine reprint all the votes. It would be so easy. You have to wonder why they don't want to do this.

You wouldn't be admitted to the BBV group.

3. Anything that is single entry is open to fraud. |

Basic accounting Carlos. It has to be double entry or it can be compromised. There is no reason that these machines cannot be programmed like a cash register or ATM. Do you think that large supermarket chains or banks would allow anything that couldn't be audited without a journal printout and numbered entries, and audit totals?

All that other stuff has to do with... ahh, mmm, money, yeah, money. Ya can't have money involved with voting. That's unamerican. So that's why you can't have a recept when ya vote. Yeah.

5. Money is only a commodity. |
|
The essential principle here is a trade. You are trading your vote for a candidate or specific issues. At the store you are trading currency for goods. It's very simple really.

7. Okay, don't get insulted. A lot of people don't. |

And these are people who are well-educated otherwise. I guess, I am amazed that something this obvious isn't being done in the richest, industrialized, so called Democratic nation in the history of the world. I didn't realize until now that our voting systems are no better than a banana republics. I am stunned, really, but it does explain the results of past elections to me that at the time didn't seem quite right.

for many may keep them away from the polls. I know people over 45/50 who do not work, or are in jobs that don't require use of the computer have fear of technical machines and may be afraid or embarrased to admit they feel this way so may not go to the polls. I think some of the multi election dollars should be used for the national media to educate people to the ease of using computers to still their fears. I know many in the minority areas do not have computers and surely will feel intimidated by their use.

I believe I've seen it written here that it would cost about $1500 to get a paper trail. If that's true, then either she's been lied to, or she lied to you.
