Looking for the moles
I owe a lot to Democratic Underground.

Thanks to these forums, I found a community of people with whom I can discuss politics, and then, when that wears me down, people with whom I can discuss movies and music and juvenile sex jokes.

Thanks to these forums, I got up off of my ass and became a Democratic candidate for local office. Sure, I lost handily to a REPUBLICAN in the primary, but that wasn't DU's fault.

Thanks to these forums, I know the names of every one of the ten Democratic candidates. I can tell you what their positions are on a whole range of issues that are important to me. And I know, thanks to DU, that each and every one of them could topple Bush in the upcoming election.

But, thanks to these forums, I have found a reason to hate each and every one of these candidates.

I have not made up my mind about who I am supporting in the primaries. If you go back through my history, you will see that I have neither advocated nor dismissed any particular candidate. I will not do so now.

To those of you who have thrown out bombshells, who have tried to turn people on to your candidate not by highlighting his/her virtues, but by demonizing the opposition, I hope you'll remember what I said earlier: I have found a reason to hate each and every one of these candidates. That was not a result of watching Fox or CNN or MSNBC, because I don't watch any of them. It came from my main source of news and information: Democratic Underground.

When we spend all of our time looking for moles, we stop seeing the faces. I beg of you all, my friends, step back, and think about the irreparable harm you could be doing before you post.

1. Yeah
I'd much rather be building someone up than tearing them down... In the long run the repukes are just gonna troll up the attacks we used on each other during the infighting period, and then we'll be in serious shit during the endgame...

6. There's nothing to hate about him, right?
You never see anything bad about him on DU.

How's the book tour going?

5. As I put it, more sarcastically, yesterday
Well--phew!--what a relief! All I can say is, THANKS! Cripes, if I hadn't been reading DU, I might've been dumb enough to actually go out and VOTE for one of these guys.

7. So give me a good reason to hate Kerry
C'mon I'm dying to find a reason. And children... this is ONLY for Finnfan to answer.

10. Oh no. You won't get this from me. Not in this thread.
I think you miss my point. You know as well as I do that there have been numerous threads and posts viciously attacking Kerry (as well as all the other candidates). I will not rehash what I am preaching AGAINST in this thread.

9. Hey Finnfan
I agree with you, but when I think of Bush or Arnold these days, it's not hard to find something nice about the other candidates, except Lieberman. I really don't like him, but next to Bush he's wonderful. What can I say. It's the left-wing that ultimately has to unite behind a candidate to get the war-wing out of our lives before it's too late.

11. Yep
I don't mind the criticism, but I do mind-- with all my being -- the lies, distortions, misrepresentations, negative twisting (far too twisted to be called spin), all for one reason.

So much so that with my time on DU dwindling because of other activities, I stay out of more and more candidate threads.

And the disdain -- no, contempt -- I feel for several posters who PERSIST in that dishonest and reprehensible behavior knows no bounds. They're from the Kerry camp, and the Clark camp, and unfortunately a few nutzoids in the Kucinich camp.

And it's a crying shame DU allows itself to be used this way. The handful of people I'm talking about are disruptors, plain and simple. They should've been gone from here long, long ago.

Eloriel

12. There are some in EVERY camp.
I don't want to pick out any one particular candidate's supporters in this thread, because I've seen it from them all.

14. Fuck the moles.

They're easy to spot with their "should I believe this?" posts that invariably link to dem bashing stories or another transparent, unsophisticated brain-fart. I just chuckle, fix myself another Knob Creek and water and go about my merry way, enjoying their abject terror as I happily count the days to Chimpy's return to his astroturf ranch.
