All the Clark attacks today made me laugh
Is that all they have?

Some stupid British General saying "I won't start WW3 for you."

That he has a temper?

That he is sometimes difficult to work with?

This is going to sink him?

If this is all they have on Clark, they have nothing.

How disingenuous. Republicans are saying "how can you vote for someone like this" and they vote for that murderer Bush.

It's all really funny. And pathetic. Just shows how desperate the Pigs are.

2. I ENJOY the negative press
Clark has gotten more nasty attacks from the right in two days than Dean has gotten in four months.

And it's no accident: they know that Clark is a much tougher nut to crack.

To the Deaniacs--I like Dean, and I think he'd have a good shot at beating Bush. But you can't deny that the Bushies have a stock of stupid smears aimed at Dean: you know there would be commercials in a loop--"Dean: Supports gay marriage." "Against our troops." A lie in a loop, and let's be honest, there's a good chance it will stick.

What do they have against Clark? This guy just immediately trumps Bush, in terms of character, geography, accomplishment, and intellect. From what I've seen he articlates a liberal vision in plain-spoken words.

They're afraid, and they're trying to work out some smears far in advance, hoping SOMETHING will stick. What are their talking points:

"Clark is dangerous: he stood up to the Russians!"
"Don't vote for a Clark: in his war, no soldiers died!"
"Clark says that Bush tried to mix up 9/11 and Saddam!"

But it's a delight to me. They're scared. This is just more bad news for Bush. Clark gets my money. And, to paraphrase the good Doctor Dean, I get my country back.

JI7--

I used to be a Kerry supporter, but why not switch to Clark? Kerry is a good senator, but who will beat Bush?

20. kerry is still my guy
and i'm not leaning towards anyone else either. kerry can beat bush also. i don't really have anything bad to say about clark and should he win the nomination i will support him. but for the primary i'm staying with kerry for many good reasons such as his record and plans for the environment and his record on civil rights.

29. Jackson
And it is. The story is he flipped out then. Nevertheless, Jackson was operating under the command structure rules of NATO and Britian, thus giving him the upper hand when push came to shove.

This is an ignored but important element in the story.

Britian=command on the ground has the call
London had okay the move with NATO, but sided with Jackson because that is how it's done.
US=total civilian command...Clark could recommend and get approval, but White House+JC+Pentagon has the last word. They had already signed on to putting the tanks on the runway.
NATO had called and given the go sign.

NOTE: I heard on NPR yesterday that changing US structure is a policy moving through the Pentagon right now.

8. Desperate men take desperate chances
If this is all they can hit him with, expect manufactured scandals that would make the ones that hit Clinton look like a kid lying about doing his homework. Expect anything and everything from smear campaigns to dead bodies. If Clark gets knocked off during the primaries that would be too good for the Bush campaign. I wouldn't discard the idea just yet.

18. The Clark attacks were stunning
He's a shill for the Clintons, everyone at the Pentagon dislikes him because he went to Oxford, he's too ambitious, he's too late, he's indecisive, he's an egghead, etc etc.
I was amazed. The media whores on all the cable networks were on a rampage against him. It shows clearly that the right has near total control of the media. The Republicans know that Clark will win in a landslide against Bush and they're scared.

24. yep, they're desperate

Just think, Democrats can put up ten people next to whom W looks and acts like the town drunk in a thousand dollar suit.

I'm pretty sure that the Party sort of likes this. It makes the Republican media strategy look schizo.

Oh, and don't forget the real reason for the increasing hysterical absurdity on their side: 43% a month ago and falling. (Present numbers should be around 41%.) That's Bush's national reelection numbers. He has crashed out of any sort of contention in the Northeast and West Coast already and must be under 50% in half of the Red States. He's got nothing much left except absurd levels of denial and mythology and pretensions for the True Believers. At the present rate he looks to bottom out around 35% in late winter.

I think Rove and their Party aren't entirely focussed on reelecting the man anymore. They're worrying about all the damage to other Republicans running they're going to do if they go as brutally negative as they must figure they need to. If W loses, heck, even if he wins, it could finish off the Party for many years. But between graceful surrender and bloody kamikaze massacre, you can count on this White House to choose the barbaric and selfdefeating option every time.

28. Clark is hard to get along with...
And Dean can get testy....
And Kerry is too aloof...
And blah blah blah...

The corporate media will have a personal attack ready for any Democrat who becomes a frontrunner. Meanwhile they worship at the feet of a drunken war deserter. Its Gore all over again. This is the type of thing we have to be prepared for. Never expect any slack from the media whores.

Edited on Thu Sep-18-03 08:22 AM by rocknation
I hope it's true that Dean and Clark will to team up if one gets the nomination. Together, they'd be deadly against the Pretzel-Dunce. I didn't know anything about Edwards back when his name first emerged, so I was quite surprised when the rightwing press jumped all over him. But it made me like him immediately--anyone the Repubs hated that much just HAD to be good!
