Why is Clark taking so many liberal positions |
|
if he is not really a liberal? Or is being pro-choice--even in cases of late term abortion--not liberal anymore?
(I'm still technically for Dean, but I'm paying attention to Clark.)

1. Most of the critiques are from the radical left, not the liberal |
|

left. Mostly Marxists, and Anarchists. Elections aren't terribly important to them as they believe in a different type of government. Whether the present one moves left or right is not their concern. A breakdown of the present system is more to their advantage.

2. Maybe because they make sense. Isn't that what most of us think? |
|
Why would someone be suspicious of a Democrat running for President having at least some liberal positions?

3. I think it was a rhetorical question. |
|
A few people are always going to think he's a trojan horse, though.

5. True enough, but I've seen a Trojan Horse argument |
|
from some less radical types, to the effect that Clark is talking left to scoop up disaffected liberals, assuming he can win over centrists (his supposed "real" spot on the spectrum) rather easily.

8. So which do you support? |
|
Given your boisterous affection for Arianna Huffington who CAN'T win.

6. Clark was one of the few to stand with Kerry as an advocate for gays |
|
to be allowed to serve openly in the military. He is also aligned with Kerry on taxcuts and gun control.
So, I'd say it is a good guess that he is overall a liberal-leaning moderate.

7. Clark's look at Affirmative Action was wishy washy |
|
I read that he considered income level as being a cap on Affirmative Action. Which is beside the point of racial discrimination. That is good if you think middle class, and upper class (not so likely) blacks being discriminated against is fair enough.
Has he talked about clean energy, outsourcing, international law, etc. there are still many issues he has yet to bring up or spend time on to call him liberal or not.

10. He Cared Enough About AA to File an Amicus Brief |
|
With the Supreme Court in the Michigan case.
He is a strong defender of AA. He is not a doctrinaire thinker, however, in that he's willing to consider class as WELL as race in this equation.
I fully support that.
