1. You're not saying anything
I don't think anyone doubted they'd try to call him unpatriotic. The ferocity of their attack is proportional to its weakness.

What people--including myself--believe is that it's FAR harder for these attacks to stick, and that there's a good chance they will backfire. It's not 2002. America is waking up after a one-night stand with an ugly war. They can try to Cleland Clark, but it won't work.

2. Let them attack.

I think there will be a backlash against the GOP just like there was during the Clinton impeachment debacle.

Clark comes across as a mam of honor and integrity. So let them attack at their own peril.

3. Goody for you.
I don't think ANYBODY on this board, regardless of which candidate they prefer, thought that any Dem would get a free ride. We KNOW the attacks will be fast and furious.

What remains to be seen is how the candidates HANDLE them. Attacks CAN backfire, and the current administration is on thin ice when they attack the credibility or patriotism of a number of Democratic candidates. They just have to fight back hard.

7. Know what's worse?
When Democratic voters fight tooth and nail to undermine Democratic candidates who threaten their favorites. I am sick and tired of hearing it on all sides - smearing, bashing and flaming. I've now defended Kerry, Kucinich, Dean and Clark to fellow Dems in a matter of weeks and I'm getting tired of it. It's as bad as debating with neocons.

I understand this is a very competitive primary. I also understand that the more Dems infight each other over candidates, the more the Repugnants laugh. I may not agree with what every candidate stands for, but by bob I wouldn't stoop to a smear campaign. Yes, Dean supporters, I'm talking to you. You need to put a muzzle on it for the good of your party.

9. I agree with you
I think we have some really good democrats running for president. I have a problem with Lieberman, but I am not going to bad mouth him either. As far as I am concerned we just help the Repubs when we fight among ourselves. And God knows, I do not want to help those folks.

10. I'm a Dean supporter
and I too have defended Kerry, Clark, Edwards, etc. What's more I've posted positive things about them. Please don't make blanket statements. And telling people to muzzle themselves is anti-democratic. Yes, there are insufferable Dean supporters, but there are at least that many insufferable supporters of other candidate. Over the past 4 months, Dean has been the most attacked candidate.

5. Give the guy a little credit - listen to what he has to say
I think he's opening up the floodgate for criticism of the administration - just watch. He is also extremely well-spoken, and I'm sure he's already dealt with a lot of 'politics' while being at the top rung of the military.

8. Yes
By challenging his courage they demand proof. The proof is in the war records. War records invite comparison. Backfire.
