Poll: Bush Iraq Rating At New Low - CBS
President Bush's approval rating on handling Iraq has fallen to its lowest level ever, and his overall approval rating is the lowest it has been since the 2001 terrorist attacks, according to a CBS News poll.

The poll also finds that a declining number of Americans think the U.S. is in control of the situation in Iraq, and only 22% think the Bush administration has a clear plan for rebuilding the former dictatorship.

Americans also question whether a successful rebuilding of Iraq would ultimately pay dividends for them back at home: most do not think the United States will be any safer from terrorism even if Iraq does become a stable democracy. But many Americans do believe the rebuilding process in Iraq will force tough financial tradeoffs back at home - tradeoffs they would be unwilling to make.

THE PRESIDENT AND IRAQ

And we all know that it's at least 10 points lower than what the Media Whores are publishing!

2. So he is back to August 01 type ratings-he'd be well below except for medi
From CBS "His current job rating is about what it was prior to the attacks of September 11, 2001. In late August of that year, 50% approved of the way Bush was handling his job as president, while 38% disapproved.

BUSH'S OVERALL JOB RATING

Now
Approve
52%
Disapprove
39% "

3. So, which country is Bush going to attack before 2004?
He and his cohorts really need to be at war with some entity before the election. Americans rarely like to vote out a "wartime" president. If he can bring the troops home from Iraq now he can begin demonizing Iran or North Korea. By spring or summer of next year he can attack. People will be whipped up in another round of patriotic fervor and voila...Bush is still in the white house.

Lord knows there is no real opposition to Bush* doing what he wants. Dems are too busy attacking one another to attack Bush*

Sound far fetched....I don't think so.

4. Voting out wartime presidents
Edited on Thu Sep-18-03 08:07 AM by Art_from_Ark
1968-- Lyndon Johnson decides not to run for a second full term, in part because of the horrible Tet Offensive, in part because of the emergence of strong anti-war Democratic candidates, and in part because he "lost Cronkite".

1952-- Truman decides not to seek a second full term, in part due to public angst over the Korean War.

1944-- Americans re-elect Roosevelt in the midst of WWII.

1916-- Wilson is re-elected on the slogan that "He kept us out of war". The next year, America enters WWI and the war ends before the election of 1920.

1898-- The Spanish-American War is fought and finished in just a few weeks in the middle of William McKinley's term.

1864-- Abraham Lincoln is re-elected in the midst of the Civil War, albeit without the South participating in the election.

1846-48-- Mexican War is fought and finished during James K. Polk's one and only term. Polk did not seek re-election.

1812-- War declared on Britain 5 months before the presidential election. James Madison re-elected.
