Repuke friend said last night "Bush sucks - I'm voting for the General." |
|
This guy was always trying to defend BushCo to me, but has now soured on him BIG-TIME - as has his Repuke wife and his entire Repuke family! For some reason, disgruntled, disillusioned Repukes and/or independent types who seem to harbor a real aversion to voting Dem - don't mind voting for Wesley Clark. Right now they really seem to be searching for a savior from this dreadful misadministration, and they don't seem to have the same qualms about voting for Clark that they do other Dems like Dean or Kerry. Perhaps our FAUX corporate media has already managed to brainwash them about the original Dem candidates, but not Clark - and I don't think they'll be able to dissuade them from liking Clark, mostly because they really feel as if they/we NEED someone desperately!! Obviously the "General factor" is big with a lot of people - and my impression is that "Joe Sixpack" sees Clark the NATO Commander as perfectly suited to deal with the "war" on terror that Chimpy has made up.
I'm personally a very big fan of both Dean and Clark, and I believe either one will demolish the Evil Chimpster, but I have to admit that for all the trailblazing Dean has done thus far - he may really have just paved the way for Clark. There's no question that Dean has done a tremendous job, has made a great impression on millions who are committed to him - but people in "general," seem to really WANT Clark to be our next president - which would seem to be a very difficult thing for anyone (Dean, Kerry, Chimpy) to overcome. In any case, I think Dean would make a great V.P. (as would Clark). Anyone else seeing a similar picture at this juncture?

I can definitely see disgruntled (heh) Republicans in my western town backing Clark. Which is one of the things that interests me about him, in terms of getting out the Democratic vote.
But it's also something sure to cause a moral dilemma for some Democrats: with Clark, are Republicans supporting the "right" party (Democrats) for the "wrong" reasons?
I don't think Clark's got Dean or Kerry beat, but he's certainly one to watch.

I don't think so, I'd be more sickened by Repugs supporting a Dem based on conservative stances such as pro-life

We need a two prong attack a Clark/Dean ticket would be unstoppable. The swing voters and many moderate repugs would support Clark, with the added support from Dean voters, you'd have an agnostic (namely me) thanking God after the 2004 election.

6. Clark made a point in his speech |
|
to reach out to Independents and Republicans as well as Democrats. I do not think we can beat Bush without the support of all three.
I am impressed with his desire to raise the level of discourse to one of honest debate rather than personal attacks. I will be even more impressed with him if he can actually pull this off. The level of attacks coming from both the left and the right on him might make civil discourse difficult. Just reading some of the comments on DU confirm that.
I'm tired of the polarization of American politics. It just gets worse and worse. We can do better. We have to.

7. He's got "the' appeal for swing voters |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-18-03 01:04 PM by Starpass
Swing voters aren't looking for anti-war because Bush has them scared shitless of terrorism and they keep saying in polls that Dems are weak on defense. This comforts them. Remember they have been brainwashed that ALL Dems are little pinkos who would never fight to save the US of A under any circumstances. A Dem general says otherwise. AND, think of the possibility that some of this gung ho military and their families might think it's actually permitted to "think" about a Dem as a leader and a president. How the hell did we lose so many to the republicans in the first place gang??--they hadn't been this big in years. It was because they thought we were dope smoking radicals not because they thought we had become too conservative. It's time to get these people back and unwash their brains. If they vote for Clark as a Dem maybe they can start thinking about taxes helping people is not a pinko plot.

12. Um, I think it shows Clark's broad appeal. |
|
But you only intend on voting for Kucinich, Dean or GREEN. So you're a lost cause as it is.
