Kef Issues Press Release on Lieberman Spokesman's Clark Comments
Edited on Thu Sep-18-03 01:10 PM by khephra
"The black vote is going to be arguably one of the most important topics that will be discussed this entire political season," said Internet Political Junkie, Khephra. "Surely GI Joe should have changed his schedule to discuss this issue with the NAACP instead of appearing on Fox for an interview?"

(In reference to GI Joe's comments made about Clark here:

"The economy is going to be arguably the most important topic that will be discussed this entire political season," said Lieberman spokesman Jano Cabrera. "Surely the general can change his schedule to discuss this issue with the American people."

2. Sorry, in this instance I don't care
Lieberman is the only one of the candidates who snubbed the NAACP for a Fox segment. For him to bash Clark on not appearing somewhere without getting called on it himself, well...it just had to be said so people would remember.

3. Lieberman didn't miss the event because of the interview
he had a long scheduled fundraiser that he was committed to in New York.

I'm not at all a Lieberman supporter but your post is misleading

4. A fundraiser and Fox...
I stand corrected...that's SOOOOOOOOOOOO much better, isn't it?

"Clark is scheduled to give a paid speech next Thursday, the day the nine other candidates are scheduled to participate in a debate..."

So Clark attending his own fundraiser is worse than Lieberman doing the same AND appearing on Fox during the NAACP convention?

hehehe thanks for pointing that out, Bombtrack. You made me realize that his comments are even MORE hypocritical than I thought they were.

5. Is a paid speech
the same thing as a fundraiser? Probabley not. Clark is on the roster of high paid professional speakers. Not knocking it, but I think it's an extremely bad move. He should be at the debate. (And retire from the publc speaking gigs now that he's announced. I won't give him a pass on this.

7. We don't know if he'll be at it or not
I don't think there's been an official word on the subject yet.

You have a point about fundraisers vs paid speech. But the point remains: is this really justified criticism from Joe considering what he did with the NAACP speech?

6. Thanks for flagging that one kheph
Joe has a nasty habit of resorting to mudslinging when desperate. Very unseemly.

... but i tend to think that Clark's absence (if it comes to pass) will be a more serious one. the NAACP is arguably a special interest representing only a fraction of the dem base. and Lieberman wasn't the only candidate who couldn't make it to the NAACP forum.

the candidate debates on the other hand, are an event for the whole party. all the candidates (except Clark if he skips out) will be there. Clark's absence will be all the more telling because of the months of flirting during which he was supposedly preparing for a perfect entry into the race. this "hard conflict" shows bad planning on his part. if he's a serious candidate, the debate should be his first real opportunity to show the people that he has what it takes to be a winning politician. but if he pulls a no-show, it'll be seen as one more in a series of evasions.
