What, no DLC= Clark thread?
very interesting how the DLC= evil cabal folks are so strangely silent on the subject of Clark.

It seems rather obvious that the leading DLC Dems are all on board Clarks candidacy.

Many in the Dean camp feel this is the DLCs answer to Dean's insurgent ground up campaign. A typical sentiment:
Why, you ask, would the national "corporate wing" of the democratic party not embrace the clear people's favorite? Simply because they are out of touch with the grassroots of America, and they have to protect themselves for their willy-nilly opposition to Bush's lies. They didn't stand up for our democracy in the heat of the moment, they can't be trusted to beat back the assault on our liberty in 2004"

So hey, guys, in view of Clarks membership on several board of Directors and now this push from DLC democrats, do you think you have the numbers to beat back the "democratic wing" of the party?

Or did I miss something in all the hoopla?
For the record , I am a member of the DLC.

3. The DLC is poison.
Unless of course you wanted a Republican WH, Congress, Supreme Court, and press.

I'm not sure how much more 'winning' I can take.

8. you're out of touch
and so is the DLC. Bill Clinton brought them 1-time (yep, you read that right) notoriety, not the other way around. What did they bring us for the 2002 mid-term elections? Disaster. What will they keep bringing us? The same goddamn thing. People are sick of insiders telling them what they're supposed to believe, and the DLC, not Dean, is the one who CONTINUES to lead this party off electoral cliffs.

9. Bill Clinton won because of his considerable political skills

and personal charisma.

He was the exception, not the rule.

I am not against the DLC itself, only the tactics they employ.

13. Dean is the "clear people's favorite"? Most are UNDECIDED.
Edited on Thu Sep-18-03 02:22 PM by tjdee
I certainly know you don't mean that the people's favorite is Lieberman.

Are you going to tell all the Clark supporters meeting in the meetups and doing various other draft Clarkie things that they aren't grassroots? Does grassroots only mean "Dean supporter"?

Here's a thought--maybe the big guns are behind Clark because they think he can win? They have opinions just like everyone else, don't they?

21. This Board Isn't So Big
Who are the pro-Clark posters that trashed Dean...

I think most of the attacks on Dean have come from the DK supporters who accuse Dean of being a faux leftist...

but there were and still are plenty.

I disagree about the DK supporters making most of the attacks against Dean, that honor belongs to the Kerry supporters.

16. I'm not going to jump all over Clark...and I am a Dean supporter.
As far as I can tell those two are the closest on all issues. Clark could still capture my primary vote but damn he'd really have to jump through hoops to do it. Dean has earned my vote at this point, but I'd be ecstatic with either Dean or Clark at the top of the ticket.

18. Have to agree with you
Dean was always a DLC favorite when he was governor of VT. Unfortunately, he chose to run for prez against Liebermann, the DLC Heir Apparent. THAT's why the DLC is so p.o.'d at Dean. Dean talks the liberal talk, but he's definately more moderate than liberal, or progressive for that matter.

On the issues, he and Clark are really not that far apart. Maybe that's why Dean asked Clark to be his running mate.

Either way, the party just got more interesting with the good General tossing his hat (helmet?) into the ring.

24. Here's some of what's been posted, Capn!
Ah, remember the good old days when you were defending the DLC (as constituted) to the death. BTW, for those of you relatively new to DU, Q and Merlin were also DLC'ers before they found out that the DLC had sold out the Democratic base and really didn't want to win if it wasn't on their narrow terms. The Cap'n (formerly Lorelei, lol!) has decided to stay and fight from within. Good for him I say! Good for him! He's truly one of the good guys though he didn't want to believe what the DLC leadership was up to for quite awhile.

In any case, here are a few threads that bear reading:

Clark and military industrial complex ties: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=361395

Tinoire - Research post on Clark and DLC in Will Pitt's thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=357772#358835

CW Webster and others - Why has the Dean is unelectable meme resurfaced: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=356599#356786

And Eloriel's "Okay Clarkies" thread which has excellent info from Tinoire.
