Watched a powerful, sad movie last night.

Last night, I watched "Bloody Sunday". The movie is about a massacre at a demonstration in Derry, Northern Ireland by British soldiers in 1972. 13 people, many of whom only boys died. 14 others wounded. What struck me about it was when the pacifist organizer of the march made a statement to the press after the violence. He said, “You’ve given the IRA the biggest victory it will ever have. All over this city tonight, young men, boys, will be joining the IRA... and you will reap a whirlwind.” This go me thinking that what the U.S. government is doing in Afghanistan and in Iraq is the same thing that the British soldiers did in Derry 31 years ago but on a bigger scale.

My fear is after what has happened in invading Iraq and Afghanistan has set the catalyst of many angry young Arab and Muslim men to join the fundamentalists and the U.S. shall reap a bigger whirlwind that could last many, many years.

Has anybody else seen the film? If you haven't you really should watch it.

1. The U2 song is about that...
...they do it on the DVD Rattle and Hum, and you can tell that the audience doesn't get it--we Americans are clueless about the terror most of the world lives with.

Very well done, very realistically done in a documentary manner.
