By April 2004, 600 American soldiers had been killed in the war
By May 2005, 1,000 more American soldiers had been killed.

Does this mean the war is escalating? It seems so to me. I never hear anyone talking about it that way, however. The media still take the Bushist line that the war is over and this is some new phase--somewhere between post-major combat and withdrawal.
