Social-democracy has been under attack in Europe over the last 30 years, just as progressive programs have been under attack in the U.S. Thus the division between "Old Labour" and "New Labour".

Bernie Sanders, who has in the past described himself as a socialist and is a member of Democratic Socialists of America, has been representing Vermont for years.

Major Owens is also a DSA member.

In Milwaukee, Socialist candidate Wendell Harris received 20 percent of the vote for Mayor.

1. End free trade. Match tariffs with Europe. Protect domestic agriculture and industry.
2. HEAVILY cut down on military spending.
3. Raise taxes on top 5% to reduce taxes for the lower classes.
4. Try Bush for war crimes.

4. Protecting domestic agriculture hurts the worlds poor
I say support those who are currently engaged in growing crops and give them a limited time to leave the industry say 15 years. If that fails simply pay them not to farm, providing them with income made by taxing the rich.

1. Pull out of the WTO. Cancel NAFTA and similar treaties.
2. Cut the military budget by 25 percent.
3. Establish national single-payer health insurance.
4. Make education at all public colleges and universities free for the first two years.
5. Abortion on demand, without apology.
6. Equal Rights Amendment.
7. Universal public preschool.
8. Make aid to Israel contingent upon Israeli compliance with international law.
9. End Plan Colombia.
10. End the war on drugs. Release all nonviolent drug offenders.
11. Legalize marijuana.
12. Pass tough measures against drunk driving.
13. Decriminalize all drugs besides marijuana.
14. Subsidize drug treatment programs.
15. Establish clean needle programs.
16. Make drugs available to addicts with a prescription.
17. Institute a real progressive income tax. Cut taxes for the poor and middle class.
18. Abolish capital punishment.
19. Raise the minimum wage. Establish a nationwide living wage.
20. Update poverty measurements.
21. Repeal welfare "reform".
22. Invest in the arts.
23. Reestablish the Civilian Conservation Corps.
24. Complete restructuring of the federal government. Unicameral legislature, elected Supreme Court justices, proportional representation, instant-runoff voting, and a weaker executive.
25. Replace the CIA with a genuine intelligence-gathering agency.
26. Repeal Taft-Hartley.
27. End the Cuba embargo.
28. Make all campaigns publicly-financed.
29. Reform public television and radio, turning them into worker-controlled cooperatives.
30. Oppose school vouchers.
31. Experiment with alternative schooling.
32. Limit classroom size to 15 students per teacher. One teaching assistant should be employed for every 5 students over this limit.
33. Outlaw ads targeting children.
34. Outlaw ads for drug companies.
35. Amend the Constitution to include a right to housing, food, and medical care.
36. Reparations for slavery.
37. Invest in programs to provide youth a safe place to have fun, free from drugs, gangs, and violence.
38. Invest in prisoner education.
39. Place a moratorium on prison construction.
40. Make police officers elected officials.
41. Repeal all tariffs.
42. Crack down on money-laundering banks.
43. Crack down on terrorism-financing operations.
44. Institute a "good neighbor" policy, fostering international cooperation and understanding, esp. with Arab and Muslim countries.
45. UN into Iraq, U.S. out.
46. Support a Palestinian state in Gaza and the West Bank (including East Jerusalem), with Jerusalem a UN-administered zone.
47. Get U.S. troops out of all countries where their presence is not absolutely necessary.
48. Respect for international law and support for the International Criminal Court.
49. Free Leonard Peltier and all American political prisoners.
50. Independence for Puerto Rico.
51. Support affirmative action.
52. DC should be considered a state for purposes of national representation.
53. No war unless we are attacked first.
54. Support the Kyoto treaty.
55. Invest in alternative energy.
56. Establish programs to find well-paying, rewarding work for workers forced out of a job due to environmental concerns.
57. Invest in public transportation.
58. Label Frankenfood.
59. Repeal the PATRIOT Act.
60. Experiment with collectivization. Nationalize and democratize a handful of successfuly companies.
