"Porn-Free" Hotel Directory - Thank you, Fundies!
The fundies have opened a new website to help this country get back to its Puritanical roots:

http://www.cleanhotels.com

Here's part of what they have to say about it:

"Because pornography is an addictive, consuming substance, many individuals, whose curiosity tempts them to view a pornographic movie in the privacy of their hotel room, become "hooked" on pornography. An escalating cycle of pornography use begins and that cycle can result in the disruption of every aspect of the user's life, including family and career.

It is not unheard of for families to report that children turn on a hotel TV and find a previously ordered hard core pornographic movie in progress. The images planted on a child's mind through that one brief encounter can be troubling for many years.

Further, hotels pandering pornographic movies can create a hostile and potentially dangerous environment for women traveling alone or with children."

47. I get fundies who come into the store to buy movies for the sole purpose
of watching them to report them to http:\\www.obscenitycrimes.org

You can tell when a timid, conservative looking/dressed couple comes in, spends an hour looking at all 1700 titles, confering with each other in a whisper, and walk out with the three nastiest looking movies in my inventory. Their body language gives them away every time.

Hope they get their jollies too...

I just read that Best Western has caved in to the religious right and prohibits any of their hotels "from offering any entertainment that’s classified as adult, pornographic or obscene."

WTF is wrong with those people? They happen to be the skankiest, kinkiest, and sleaziest, of all people. when they fall, they fall hard... so far from grace it's unimaginable. I sometimes think that the most fucked up people are attracted to that type of religion because they can't control themselves.

25. ding ding ding ding ding!
we have a winner!

of course, there are many reasons for being religious, many of the sincere. but, you are correct, there are certainly those who are religious, usually overtly religious, who need it to cover, rationalize, justify, excuse, absolve, or otherwise let them be comfortable with their ongoing, habitual, uncontrollable immoral and/or unethical behaviors.

i call them 'proclaimers', those who seem to shout about their religion rather than letting it actually make them better people.

24. An anecdotal experience
I once worked with a honest to goodness, very religious wack job.

Our jobs required us to travel, so often times would find us holed-up in one hotel or another. Each hotel would offer these pay per view movies.

Well, he decided to watch one and was so distressed at having to actually witness a bare breast, right on his TV screen that he immediately called the front desk and complained. Told them that if they did not straighten this matter out that night, well they could kiss his business goodbye. So the management of that hotel took that movie off the list of ones that could be viewed.

The next morning at breakfast he told me of his success at reforming the world, very proud of himself. I thought to myself, dang I wanted to view that movie for myself but chose another last night hoping to view that one tonight. Kinda Po'd me, but I kept my tongue, why cause a fuss?

You know, he was a very 'righteous' man. Strange thing though that his sense of right and wrong did not extend to include the idea that it was wrong to take other peoples ideas and call them his own, he was notorious for claiming others work as his own to the boss.

I'm sure the boss and him get along beautifully now as both of them are 2 peas in a pod.

Glad to be gone from the presence of them 2 people.

certainly not part of any country I am familiar with. Maybe they were hatched from eggs. I've heard that lack of motherly companionship at critical times as infants can produce the effects of not possessing a 'human spirit'. It's a theory.

29. I like "Hooters", the owl motif is very original
and the scenery, well it's hard to improve that. However, I'm sort of the kind of guy that likes it with a little less noise, being somewhat older. But in my youth, the louder the song the better. They made a killer hamburger too.

Never flown the airline though. I've always wanted to join the "Mile High" club. But I doubt that would be arraigned as part of the flight package, you know, included in the price of the ticket.

28. Now, now...
...as ridiculous as their claims are, this solution seems fine to me. If a complete lack of PPV porn is that important to them, then let them use it as a search option.

We can just break out the popcorn and watch as they try to get any movie they don't want to be caught watching reclassified as "porn".

30. I looked at the list of Philly hotels...
not too many hotels where I would stay at anyways and in fact many of these chain hotels simply never bothered to offer PPV channels.

Going beyond that, what I don't understand is what the fuss about this? I'm a single woman and I've stayed in plenty of hotels with PPV-porn and never once did I feel threatened by other guests in the hotel.

39. "hostile and potentially dangerous environment for women traveling alone"
Geez, when I had a job that involved travel and lots of lonely nights in hotel rooms...

Fundie porn anecdote: I have a relative whose pastor at her Assembly of God church was suspended without pay for 3 months because he watched a porn movie while on an out of town trip for the denomination. Note that he did not "confess" his "sin" to the church until the nosy church treasurer who he submitted the bill to for reimbursement called the motel and pretended to be the pastor and found out what he had watched.
(His real mistake was asking the church to pay for it!)

She said it was shocking and that it was good they gave him some time to repent about what he had done. I don't even think her objection was along the lines of "porn objectifies women" but more that its bad to think about enjoying sex. This same person divorced her husband after 16 years of marriage and told me that she and her spouse had only had sex 9 times during their marriage, including 3 times during the 10 day honeymoon, and the rest to produce their 2 children.

No kidding.
